We brought our 4 month old Boxer, Missy, out for a short walk last night. She gets so excited when we pass people on the street that she wants to jump up on them all and play or get a rub. She's going to obedience training soon which should help sort that out, but for now that's how it is.

So last night she jumped in such a way behind us that her lead stopped her and she fell hard on the flat of her back. She jumped up quickly and ran off ahead of us, but about 20 seconds later she was down to a walk and just keeled over. She was out for 2/3 seconds and came around then but couldn't get up. As soon as she went down she also pee'd, not a normal pee, but it basically just fell out of her like she lost control of her bladder.

So after about 10 mins lying there on the pavement, she seemed ok and was able to stand. She was perky enough but panting a lot (it wasn't hot outside). So I carried her home. She's fine now, but what could have happened to her?

I'm bringing her to the vet anyway to get check, but any ideas why she keeled over? Could have been just a shock to the spine or head and made her dizzy.

Thanks,

AlanD

OMG. I would have freaked out. I am not a Vet so I couldn't even guess what happened ,I am glad that you are taking her to the vet. Her urinating is a sure sign that she lost conscoiusness and/or possibly had a siezure. Good Luck and I hope everything goes well at the vets.

yeah I thought she was just going to die, as quickly as that. Cos she could have had a brain haemorrage or something. But while sitting there, she was all happy with herself and wagging her tail like crazy. She's fine now though. She's her same crazy self! I'm keeping a close eye on her though. She's eating very well and is holding her urine. All normal really.

Sending good thoughts that Missy is ok. Let us know what the vet says. Be prepared for them to want to run a few tests on her (blood, stool, urine, etc.)

Typically my thoughts would go to heart with a fainting Boxer, but given the yank/fall, it might have been somehow related to that....I'd see what the vet says, and keep an eye on her - if it happens again, I'd certainly get her heart checked out. Better safe!

I believe a shock to her nervous system sent her unconcious. That is possibly why she couldn't stand up for a moment. Something like this is usually temperary, but could be serious.

Hope all goes well!

I do not have any advice or any ideas what it may have been, but I do send her lots of <<<<<positive vibes>>>>>> for a good report from the vet today. Please let us know what they say. Bella sends Missy lots of hugs and butt wiggles! :)
