Perhaps if you offered a small reward to anyone with information leading to her safe return, someone may come forward. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers ~ Cathy
The posters HAVE a reward listed.....NO ONE has come forward. I have a pretty good idea that whoever has her knew what they took and knew that she was a loved pet. The detective at the police dept, animal control, my vets in both states and I agree - she will not be found until someone has to take her to the vet, or she manages to escape and animal control gets her.
The neighborhood I live in, shall we say, has not been most accepting of my son and I. We are a different race, for starters, and we are from "the outside". I have been called pretty much everything you can imagine - and not nice names either. They have loudly expressed their dislike of the fact that I actually PLAY with my dogs and even KISS on them. Ah, the joys of "Urban Renewal" programs. Now that Lillie has gotten WAY protective of everything she THINKS is ours, the neighbors don't even come near my fenceline anymore. They have openly complained about my "vicious dog". Um...yeah....the "vicious dog" who about kisses us & my next-door neighbor to death. He is the only one around here she likes.
These same neighbors have multiple pit bulls at each house, along with a variety of mutts. They don't have a kind word, kind hand or kind look for any of them. The dogs are there for the purpose of breeding and to be a status symbol. A few of the fence-climbing/jumping ones have ended up in my enclosed yard, but rather than be mean, you give them a milkbone or a small meal and they go away. (My friends @ animal control joke that the dogs are jealous of what my dogs have and have to get in on it too.) Probably 90% of the dogs in this part of town have never and will never see a vet clinic, despite a law requiring Rabies vaccinations for all dogs over 6 months. Despite leash laws and containment ordinances, this section of town seems to feel they do not need to abide by any laws or rules but their own society's. WRONG. The city has FINALLY (it is a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time coming, believe me, residents and animal control were pushing for this when I left 10 yrs ago!) put their foot down. They have FINALLY given animal control free reign to "eradicate the problems" in this part of town. UNFORTUNATELY, they reached this decision shortly before my arrival and word was running through the gossip mills that the city was going to be putting "informants" in their neighborhoods. The police, animal control and I all feel that this is what my neighbors see me as, and they have messed with me and my property since the first day, particularly 2 households, 1 of which is being watched closely now because of their issue with my gates, and then Mindy's disappearance.
HAD MINDY'S LITTERMATES NOT SOLD FOR WHAT THEY DID, I would not be getting the consideration from the police as I have. They know that while she was 2nd hand to me, her littermates sold for over $800 each. Add that to the medical care I had put into her, and it is over $1200, which puts this theft case in a whole new category, and gets their interest. It isn't "petty theft" after $1000. It took a lot of squeaking my wheel at the police department and then going to see some old buddies who are sheriff's deputies (another reason why one should NEVER burn bridges when they move away) to get some bugs in ears and involvement from the detectives.
LUCKILY, my friends at animal control have now multiplied. ALL the officers know my face when they see me around town or at the shelter, and stop to ask how things are going and if they need to make a run through the neighborhood. When they ARE in the area, they stop to check in and see if I have any news on Mindy, and to love on my girls (both were shelter dogs I adopted since I moved here). (Their irregular stops have the gossipy old biddies' tongues wagging, and not quietly.) The admin staff at the shelter all know me when I come in (I am there almost every day - sometimes 2 times a day), the Ft Sill shelter knows me when I come in (not military, so have to go through vehicle inspection every time I go on post), and most of the vet clinics know me now too. SO - Mindy's vanishing act has helped in some ways, because now my neighbors don't WANT to mess with my dogs, much less me.
I am still trying to get things done after my move here, plus working and what-have-you, but until things are done on our land out of town, I have been working on getting permits from the city for 7ft wooden privacy fence. 6ft you can get without permits, but I want 7ft because there are 6ft+ tall neighbors....

. So far my requests sit on some inspector's desk.
Now you all know, in a nutshell, a little more about my neighborhood. Remember the Sesame Street song "one of these things is not like the others"? Well, that one thing that is out of place would be me.
