Never thought I would post something like this. Today, I came home from work and let the dogs out in the yard with my son. He came in to go to the bathroom, and then went back out.

Just before he went back out, Lillie (my vocal watchdog) started going nuts. My son started screaming something that I couldn't make out, but it sounded panicky so I ran outside (mind you, I was washing up and getting out of my work clothes). Mindy was gone. Stolen from my fenced yard through my gate. My son got back outside in time to see the car speed off. He and his friends organized a search party, I called the police. I knew the odds of her being found in this neighborhood are slim. I am just sick. She was due for her spay and rabies this coming Tuesday, and was to have her knees checked at that time to see how bad they really are, and if we are needing surgery on them anytime soon.

I only pray that whoever took her takes her somewhere for a rabies shot - she is microchipped, but the check has yet to clear the bank from AKC (just sent it in). I have called all the clinics around here, and been sitting here trying to put together a flyer to put around town.

My son is blaming himself because he left them for less than 5 minutes. I don't blame him at all. Someone came to my fence and opened my gate and grabbed my overly friendly puppy.

The officer who came out to take the report told me that since she is a house dog and whoever has her will probably put her outside, if she is in this part of town, it won't be hard to find her barky self after dark. He has a point. I have a friend coming in to town to stay with my son, and Lillie & I are going to go walking tonight.

The shelter closed minutes after this happened, but tomorrow morning I will be down there with pictures of her and info. In the meantime, I sit here with a hole in my heart knowing full well I may not see her again, and trying to comfort a guilt-stricken 8 yr old boy. She was 4mo old today.

OMG! The nerve of someone! I don't understand how anyone could possibly be that wicked to steal a dog out of someone's yard. Rolen & I are praying that you find her soon & that the rotten heifer who stole her get caught! Were you guys able to get a description of the car or anything?

I'm so sorry. :( I can't imagine what you and your son are going through. I will keep your family in my prayers and hope that you get Mindy home soon.

My son saw the car, I did not. He tried so hard to remember things about it, but he was in tears telling the officer he couldn't remember it all. I felt terrible for him.

We DO know it was a tan or gold Ford Contour or similar model (my son said it looked like the back of my car when it was driving away) - possibly Taurus, with an dark colored trunk lid (like it was a replacement not repainted yet) and Oklahoma license plate. He also said the windows were "dark all the way around and there was some kind of white worded sticker in the back window at the top". He also said that it was a "BoomBoom Car" (one with a heavy bass stereo system).

The officer and I agreed that he did pretty good for getting such a quick look at it. I guess all my talks about "be aware of your surroundings, you live in a big city now" paid off....I just wish they weren't being put to use in this way. I am in a city of about 100,000 people. I feel like this is a needle in a haystack.

There is a possibility that they had staked your place out & was waiting for the right time to snatch her. They may drive by your house very often. Have you had a chance to talk to your neighbors and ask if anyone had seen the car driving by?
I agree that your son did a great job of remembering the car! My 8 year old would not have been that observant!

My neighbors don't talk to me. I am the outsider. I know I have seen a car like my son described before, but not sure when/where. Considering we have only been here a month now, it was recently that I saw it.

To be honest, and I told the officer this, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the one of my one neighbor's drinking buddies (or someone he knows) that backed over my driveway gates 2 weeks ago and nearly had a white boxer eat him. Lillie was totally ticked and once he knocked the gate down, chased him. I know that moron is still miffed because I called the cops and he had to pay to have my gates replaced or I was going to press charges.

OMG-I am in shock right now-what creeps!! I am so sorry for you and your family, please give your boy hugs from us and tell him to not feel guilty-it sounds like these people were casing out your house and were just waiting for the right moment to take your baby. Your son did a great job of describing the vehicle-I'm sure you are proud of him for doing such a good job!! I will be saying a prayer for Mindy to be returned home soon and I am sending hugs to your whole family-be strong and know that you have all of BW behind you!!!!
