Even if my female is still young, she's smaller than a lot of her age at the dog park. One lady told me that there's 3 size of boxer: small, medium and large! I didn't say nothing because I don't want any fight, but 3 sizes, just like poodles! :p

Miniature Boxers

Okay, so does that mean at 5'3" I am a miniature person? :D

There is a breed standard and of course dogs on both ends of that scale. We all have Boxers and that is the point right? There are some that are mammoth beasts, some that are petite, and some that are 'breed standard'. Geeeeeeesh!!!!!

I am hoping to buy a boxer soon so Ive talked to several breeders and one of them said that I should check out "minature" boxers. I asked him what they were and he compared them to those minature dobermans you can buy. Anyways, he mentioned that they werent AKC approved or anything. I am not interested in these "minature' boxers...lol but found it interesting that people could breed a smaller almost exact replica of the larger boxer.

Mini's

You know the people that ask you if your boxer is a miniature are the same kind that ask you if they are pit bulls, they are just misinformed, or trying to pretend to know what they are talking about.

LOL, that is so funny.:D

Marnie,
I really hope that being 5'3" doesn't classify a person as being a minature person. What the heck would a person (me) be classified as if they were smaller than that?

The breed standard also states that the Boxer is a medium-sized breed - so even though there are no height disqualifications, a small-sized Boxer would not be a medium-sized breed! (Also, the standard does note males should be preferably not under the minimum.)

Also, I think it would be extremely hard to breed miniatures without pulling in another breed. I know from personal experience that breeding small to small does not equal small - my female is 21 inches - small but within standard - and *every* puppy she's had is taller than her. The studs were 25 and 24 inches, respectively - again within standard - the males pups that I've seen recently are all 24-25 inches, the female is 22 1/2.

Some people may think you have a miniature Boxer because "we had a Boxer when I was a kid, but it was much bigger than yours." In reality, the *person* is much bigger now so the dog looks much smaller - just like when you go back into your elementary school as an adult and the drinking fountains that you could barely reach then only come up to your knees now

This "breeder" who said there were miniature boxers and mini dobermans - were they registered or knowledgable? Because in the case of Boxers - no mini as so many others have said, and also with Dobies - the Miniature Pinscher is not a mini Doberman, it's a separate breed. Like Greyhounds and Whippets, related but different. Scary to be so wrong...
