Boxer Pal
We found out today that Miles for sure has lymphoma. We are strongly considering chemo and have read some great information on this website about how their experience with it has gone. We were told about a protocol called Madison, Wisconsin protocol. It is a protocal involving Elspar, Vincristine, Cytoxan, Adriamycin and Cytosar. Anyone use this particular mixture of drugs? Miles is an otherwise healthy six year old male that has been healthy his whole life. He has already show signs of fatigue but otherwise is the same dog. We have another boxer (Luka) who only knows life with Miles. Obviously we are doing everything we can for Miles and my other concern is how Luka will take being an only dog once the time comes. Any information about your experience with this particular protocol would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time

Boxer Insane
Do not know anything about it but wanted you to know I am thinking of you and sending boxer wiggles to Miles. I do have a friend that did a chemo course with her GSD and he tolerated it well and it definetely arrested the progression of the disease. He peed a little more as he was on prednisone and his appetite would be off a little after treatment (though he never refused a cookie :) ) but he had a good quality of life overall. Your boy sounds young and strong and I would think that would make him a perfect candidate. As for your other pup, yes they do mourn, and he will when that sad day comes. When I lost my girl to BCM I did let my boy see her. Actually her whole pack came to see her and it was amazing and very touching. Fraze laid with Ailis and the others took turns (just like a human wake) sniffing her and licking her mouth. We let them all stay with her until they were ready to go-my boy was the last one out-he stayed with her for over an hour. I think it helped them all understand that Ailis was gone and though Fraze was "depressed" for a couple of weeks I think he recovered more quickly than he would have otherwise. Anyway, God Bless Miles and your family and I will keep you in my thoughts.
