Hello, I was just curious what people's experience with different microchip companies has been. I noticed some breeder's chip their puppies before they go to new homes (which is great!) but just wondered about some of the less known brands. I think from the research I have done, there are 125 or 134 chips and both appear to be able to be read by all scanners, but the 134 can be read by international scanners as well?

So far my only experience is with ResQ and HomeAgain. My only complaint is that HomeAgain charges an annual fee, SO I THOUGHT. When i was reading up on it today I found out that if you read the fine print you don't have to pay that annual fee of 17$ and your dog will still be in their system. That money is for some extra service, like them getting a team together to help look for your dog/put up fliers. So anyhow I feel a bit cheated, it always bothered me that I had to pay the money up front to get it, a set up fee, AND an annual fee, where as my chip from ResQ was a one time fee. One breeder I saw used "ProID", anyone have those in their dogs?

I've never lost my ResQ dog, but my one with HomeAgain went missing in a town while on vacation, someone down the road called the 1800 number on the tag, they called me within minuets and I quickly had her back.

Thanks for your opinions :)

My rescue group uses 24petwatch and we microchip all our dogs before they get adopted. There is no fee for registering your animal and it's free to maintain your information in the system.

Both mine are chipped with HomeAgain. I was never informed of an annual fee. I just paid the $17 dollars at my vet's office. I like their service because I live in tornado alley and should a tornado come thru and take out local phone service can I have my mother's number listed as well.
