Meat processing in town

There is a meat processing place in my home town that I just moved back to. I called to see if they give away or sell scrap meat/bones fairly cheap. The lady said they didn't really have anything right now, she did just do a pig, but said I wouldn't want to give that to the dogs. Said they should be doing a cow mon or tues, to check back then. What should I ask for? What would be a reasonable price if they sell it and not give it away? I'd like to atleast get some descent bones for recreation, not sure if I could get enough meat to actually feed BARF, or that it would be on a regular basis for that matter since they aren't processing all the time. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Why wouldn't you want to give pig parts to your dog? Just about any parts of the cow would be great! My DH used to work for a slaughterhouse and they sold tripe/heart/tongue and other various parts for about $.25 per pound! If you are looking for recreational bones, you should get leg bones which are very dense and usually can't be eaten.

yeah i wasn't sure why I wouldn't want pork for them either. I just don't like to call places and sound like I dont know what I am talking about. So if i was able to ask for a few specific things, it might work out better. Thanks!

my vet was understanding about me feeding raw. But he suggested that I only gave my dogs human grade food. So I am leery about getting "leftovers" from places. I do get chicken backs, etc from the butcher but it is sold for soups etc. Cheap but still human grade.
