Me and my little "Buddy"

Hi! This is my first post. We just got our new puppy last week. He is 13 weeks old and is a flashy fawn. We live in Northern California and he was driven out here from a breeder in Missouri.

He is such a beautiful boy! We previously had a six month old brindle boxer named Taz which we lost last November. It was such a tragic blow to our family! Prior to Taz we had a Dobie for 12 years named Otis. We loved our dobie but the difference in the two breeds was apparent right away with Taz.

Buddy is doing well except for a few days he had the "runs" seems to be doing better now. Also, I notice he has a little mucus in one eye when he wakes up in the morning. Is this normal? Never noticed it with my last puppy.
Appreciate any advice I can get.

Hi to myself!

No one responded to my introduction or questions so I am testing this out to see if I get a reply.

Welcome to BW.
Sorry to heat about your loss of Taz.
I'm sure that you new pup will help ease the pain and bring back lots of good memories of Taz. It's alway hard to lose a loved one, especially when they are that young, so you have to get in as much love in the short time our furbabies are with us.

Welcome!!! Guess your test worked!
I would guess that the runs could just be stress from the move. I know some pups will have no bowel movement for a few days when they are first placed in a home.
Boxers do have eye boogers. Some worse than others, and sometimes certain brands of food will make it worse. They are all different. If it seems too bad, just get him a checkup with your vet, he should be in soon for the last round of shots.
Your breeder drove all the way there from Mo? Wow! I read in one of your other posts you lived in Brighton. I have heard of it, but don't know where it is.
Good luck with your new baby!!!!

Welcome to boxerworld. We're in Northern california also. Can't wait to see some pics of Buddy.
A small amount of eye boogers are normal, if it's a large or nearly constant amount it could be caused by the food you're feeding him. I hope those runs clear up, has he been to the vet since you got him from your breeder?

Sorry to hear about the last pup Taz, I'm sure Buddy will reap the reward of being spoiled twice over. As far as the eyes if it is excessive like you wipe the eyes, and an hour later they are crudded again, I would try some eye wash to make sure nothing is in there irritating it. Could it be an allergy? Just a thought seeing as Buddy has made a pretty signifigant geographical change. If it is not excessive just like the other post said eye crud is common for Boxers. Depending on how droopy his lids are could be a factor also. I know Beau has more eye crud than Stella, but he has much droopier eye lids. Maybe they get irritants in there easier? If it seems excessive try and call your vet and see what they have to say.

Welcome aboard and enjoy Buddy. Remeber the only thing better than a Boxer is two Boxers.

Thanks for the Advice

Thanks for the advice on the eye boogers. Buddy only has it in the morning when he wakes up and only in one eye. I was just concerned because my last puppy never had this. I do notice that his eyes are a bit droopier than Taz's.

Buddy was delivered to us by another dog breeder that was coming out west to deliver his own puppies. We were having him shipped via air but was a little nervous about it when we found out it would be at least 16 hours and three connections later before we got him here in SF.

His stools seem better today. Maybe it is the change and the trip across the country and all.

I'm just a little paranoid after having lost my last puppy at only six months last November. Taz accidently got out when a friend came to visit my son and he was hit by a car. He was such a beautiful animal and would constantly make us laugh! Buddy, by coindence was born the day after we lost Taz.

thanks again!
Joanne
