I was thinking of getting a Cocker, but have learned many new things of them recently. I am now thinking of a Boston Terrier. I am looking for a playmate to Sohshee, but not really wanting two dog as big as she is in the house. What are their personalities like? Are they good with kids? Thanks everyone!

I don't really know any Boston's that well but I have heard that they are good with children and other dogs and that they are very intelligent and don't bark alot. Sounds good:) My daughter's friend brought her Boston puppy by the house one day and it was very playful. Nino loved the puppy and they played for hours. The puppy was about 8 lbs and Nino is 90 lbs. Nino had a great time (my Cocker won't ever play with him)and it amazed me how gentle Nino was with the pup. They got along real good together.

My father has a Boston. Its personality is the same as a boxer only smaller. They have most of the same trates and temperment. They are wonderful with kids. Bostons do not think of themselves as small and therefor are great playmates for any size dog. In my opinion they are the best small dog someone can own. I love it when Dutch and Chooper get together for playtime. It is always such a laugh. I am not ready for a second dog yet but when I am it will be a Boston.

Every one that I have known has been great big dogs in little packages. They are very trainable but are so smart they tend to invent their own way to do things if you try to repeat an excercise too often.

From personal experience, I had a boston when my first child was born.. the boston was wonderful, everytime she cried, the dog would run to me, as if to say MOM, this thing is crying! But when he got older, he wasnt as tolerant of the children, and he was bad mannered with them. So you have pros and cons with every dog, but boston puppies are great with young kids, and can grow older with them, as the kids aspects grow older, the dogs do too! so good luck :D

My neighbor's had a little Boston Terrier who was hit and killed by a car only 2 weeks ago.:( He was the cutest little fart ever! They have 2 kids - aged 2.5 and 9 months and he was very, very good with them. He was 5 years old and accepted the new babies in stride. I had the pleasure of babysitting him once when they went on holidays and he reminded me a lot of a funny little boxer. He wasn't overly yappy, like my terrier, which was nice. He was very snorty instead! He was a really great little family dog and he will surely be missed.

I know of another little Boston terrier that is in Advanced Agility - she is so smart - and it is hilarious watching her little body burn rubber all around the course.

If I had the choice between a Cocker and a Boston I would go Boston ALL THE WAY! They are awesome little farts!

Good Luck!

re: Bostons

We have raised our 3 yr. old Boxer up until a couple of months ago w/ our 14 yr. old Boston. She just recently passed away and us as well as our Boxer are totally lost! They were both spayed females and got along great!! The Boston was a mother hen and cleaned Toby's ears daily haha! Now keep in mind that both breeds are high strung! I think the Boxer kept the Boston alive a couple of more years do to the playing they shared. I am looking right now to purchase another Boston so Toby will have her a new friend to play and run with. So do I think Bostons are a good dogs to get along w/ Boxers.....You better believe it!!

One of my boy's best friends is a 3 y/o BT - and he is a blast! Every one that I have met has smart, mostly obedient and full of personality. I am not a small dog fan usually, but the BT's are like being around a boxer in little dog drag...just a bit more "energetic".

I was always curious about Boston Terriers! They sound a lot like boxers, but in a smaller package! One personality thing I was wondering, was the fact that they are a "terrier" and terriers are known to have that particular "attitude" about them. Very interesting reading about what you all have to say about the B.T.s! : )

Bostons are great! Gypsy's best friend is our neighbors little boston. He runs with her and may possibly have more energy than she does at times. I've been trying to convince my wife to let me get one. I would highly recommend them as far as I can without having owned one. One good thing is that we have a gate between our yards that stays open all the time and Wyatt, (the boston) is ALWAYS over here. He does very well with our 3 and 5 year old kids as well as Gypsy.
