Boxer Pal
Max is now 10 weeks (as of Saturday). His legs are still really short and his ears are really floppy! His snout is kinda long too and he has really big paws. Everyone that sees him thinks he's mixed with a Basset Hound or Dashaund. Do they eventually "fit" their body? We had a boxer that was 4 when we got him, so he was already out of the growing thing when we got him. His mom and dad were both brindle boxers and he was the only fawn one out of the litter. He's gonna be a big dog eventually cause he already weighs 13 pounds. Comments, suggestions, anything!!! :)

Max is 10 wks old - will he grow into his body?

My Max just turned 10 weeks old on Saturday. He has long floppy ears and short fat legs. His snout is kinda long and he has really big paws and a really big head. Everybody that sees him thinks he's mixed with Basset Hound or Dashaund. His mom and dad are both brindle and he was the only fawn of 7. The vet said it's just cause his head and paws are so big and he'll grow into his body. We wanted the fawn one cause we had a boxer that we had to put down on 4/2 at the age of 8 (RIP Bama) but we got him at the age of 4, so he was already suited to his body. Will Max eventually fit his body or is this just characteristics of the puppy? I looked at some of the puppy pictures on here and most puppies that are about his age have much longer legs and the boxer nose. Comments, suggestions, questions? Thanks!

Again, do you have a picture? ;) It might be a little more helpful if we knew what we were looking at. :)

Mmm. Looking at your pictures, I have to say that I don't think your puppy is a boxer (and am more inclined to the view that he is indeed mixed with some short-legged breed). If you met his mother/litter, you could probably take it on some faith that he is at least part boxer. But I don't believe his second parent is a boxer (bear in mind that it's perfectly possible for every puppy in a litter to have a different father - so the appearance of his littermates is no guarantee, nor is seeing a male boxer on site).

Alternatively, one might wonder about dwarfism (but as you note, it is not just his short legs that are not characteristic of a boxer, but also his head and overall structure). I think the reason for that is that he is not a full bred boxer. This photo is the one that shows his structure well: http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u128/bamabelle10/pups/IMG_8050.jpg

He is a very cute puppy, regardless :)

I am sorry, but I have to agree, he doesn't look like a boxer. Did the other puppies look more like boxers? He is very cute!
