My precious boxer, Lola, was just diagnosed with a mast cell tumor. We are awaiting complete results sometime in the next couple of days. We believe it was caught early, but it still worries me to death. I have been crying non stop since we found the tumor on Monday...had it removed on Tuesday. I am driving myself nuts searching the Internet...everything is so negative. Please, any positive and happy outcomes out there in regards to mct diagnosis? I just need some optimism really bad right now. Would really appreciate any success stories you would be willing to share. Many thanks, in advance.

I'm sorry to hear about the diagnosis. I went through it recently with my Bentley. He appeared with a lump that would swell and go away, and the first vet I took him to said it was nothing and told me not to worry. I did just that for about 6 weeks before I got a second opinion. That vet did a needle biopsy and we got the dreaded MCT diagnosis. It was removed about a week later. It ended up being a Grade I with clean margins.
I remember reading that Boxers tend to have low grade MCTs.... which is what I clung to while going through the whole process.
I think the main thing to keep in mind, is that even with the worst possible outcome, you have options, and it's not the end.

So sorry to hear about your girls diagnosis.
I have been on the receiving end of that diagnosis over 16 times with my first girl Cami. She started at age 2 developing them and they continued to show up for the rest of her life. Sadly we lost her just shy of her 7th birthday to heart issues. Had she not been dealing with that she would have continued to fight (and win) her seemingly constant battle with MCT's.
There are so many options now. You need to get your hand on a copy of the pathology report. Don't just accept the vets phone call with "clean margins" (or not) and what the grade of the tumor is. The actual report includes far more info than what *most* vets will give the owners. They will gladly give you a copy! Just ask. Once you have it you can post the results here and we can help you decipher them. I have read so many I am pretty good at understanding what they say.
