Mass Cell Tumor

Hi all, our Rocky has a mass cell tumor on his chest. They did a
biopsy on it last week and said that they want to remove it incase is Cancerous. Luckily they did not find any cancerous cells. He is going to get this tumor removed on Thursday.
Has anyone ever had a similar experience? Please fill me in if so?

Abby had a mast cell removed on her belly. They got clean margins and it was a grade 1. (both optimal). Anyway no reoccurances. I am hyper vigil on checking her for lumps. I have rushed her to the vet twice to get lumps checked but they turned out to be nothing. No removal or asperation.

Try not to worry too much. I think it is pretty common.

I will keep you in my prayers for a good outcome.

Austin had a grade 2 removed from his front leg over four years ago. Fortunatly it had clean margins and he hasn't had another one. Hope all goes well with your baby. These tumors are very common in boxers.

I've had many Mast Cell tumors removed from my Boxers. It's best to have them removed early so the dog can lead a normal,healthy life. Good luck!

Belle has a mast cell tumor removed last February. It was stage 1 with clean margins. She's had no trouble since. I am very vigilant about checking for lumps. There has been some schools of thought which recommend keeping mast cell dogs on some type of antihystamine as these tumors are a hystamine response.

A mass cell tumor is cancerous. If the doctor wasn't able to find mass cells in the biopsy it might be another kind of tumor. It's still a good idea to remove and biopsy it just in case.

Yes-my vet has me but my dogs on benedryl whenever uspicious lumps appear until they can be removed. The antihistamine is supposed to keep the suspcious cells localized to the suspect area.
