Malsers

Boxer Pal
Help!? My Boxer (Rock) has been fighting mange for some time now. We've already taken him to the vet several times, the first time he was given an ointment - that seemed to work some, but the mange came back after about a month. We can't even have him neutered yet, since the vet said he won't do it until the mange goes away. This second time, the vet gave him Ivermic - to take once a day until it goes away. Does anyone know how long it will take - or, more importantly, will he ever get rid of it permanently? or is this something he'll have to deal with forever. He's only 1 year old.

Thanks so much for your prompt reply! I'm definitely going to do some heavy research to try to make him better. First off, I'm getting him some vitamins.

Yes Mange will go away

I too had a problem with mange with my dog. She had a type of mange called Demodex. I had her on oral Ivermectin and nothing, all it did was give my girl very bloody diarehea. I brought her back to the vet, and they suggested Mitaban baths. Yes there are bad stories about Mitaban baths, but if the baths are done correctly at the vet, there is no risk involved. My puppy had Mitaban baths starting at 3 months old. I would say after 2 months of dipping, she is free of Demodex. You can also purchase apple cider vinegar and put it where the mange is(depending on if it is demodex) For some reason the ingredients in the ACV, kills Demodex...3 times a day I was putting this on my girl, and like Is said, she is now free of Demodex...

Malsers--

My girl is currently being treated for Demodex. She's been on ivermectin for almost 3 weeks. The vet told me we'd treat it for 6 weeks. I can already see the improvement--less pink and more hair on the areas where she'd lost fur. I can't tell if the ivermectin makes her thirsty or not. She seems to be drinking more water lately!

Mange will go away!

My Boxer (Harley) was diagnosed with Demodex Mange when he was 5 months old. Our vet (who also owns a Boxer) recommended Mitaban dips. After 6 dips (every two weeks) the mange was gone. After much research and several conversations with the vet, I decided to go ahead and have my little guy dipped. I am delighted with the results. Harley is cured (negative skin scrapings) and his fur looks better and is softer (may be due to his food; Wellness) than ever. Your dog's mange will go away. If it makes you feel any better, every other week when I took Harley to the vet he was excited to go in! I took that as a good sign. The dips did make him tired when he got home, but he was back to his hyper self the following day. Good luck...

Mine too!!

I really feel for ya! :(

Champ dealt with a small patch of mange when he was about 6 months old (about a year ago) and thankfully it went away fairly easily with some antibiotics, hydrogen peroxide baths, & a dip at the vet!

Hope Rock gets better soon!
