Hello everyone, we recently took our new puppy Dasie to the vet after rescuing her from a bad situtaion. She is almost 9 weeks old now, and at the vet they did a mange test becasue she had some old bite scabs from her prior situtaion. Well the test came back negative, and the old scabs have since started to go away, but now the area around the scrape test is losing hair! It is now a bald spot the size of a silver dollar, and getting bigger. Does anyone have any ideas on this, is it normal, should we be concerned? Thank you for any help you can share.

Just because your vet didn't find any mites before doesn't mean that he doesn't have any now. I would take him back for a skin scraping. :)

Sometimes skin scrapes can cause the hair to fall out. Also sometimes a negative scrape can also end up positive later too. I'd call the vet back. Good luck. :)

The test was one week ago. Could the results be different so soon? Is there anything I can look for on her also that might determine if she now has mites? Thanks

I wouldn't think so, but it is possible that he missed them the first time. I didn't realize that it had only been a week. I would maybe give it a couple of weeks to see if it gets better or worse. In the meantime I would make sure that she is eating the best food. Mange is caused by a lowered immune system. The best way to improve overall health to to feed a very good food.

Well we got her about 8 days ago, and she had been eating Puppy Chow. She is now on Puppy Chicken Soup. I am concerned because the bald patch seems to be getting larger each day. It was about as big as a quarter, and now its almost the size of a coaster in diameter. I just didn't know if anyone else had experianced similar symptoms after a scrape test. Thanks

I don't think that is normal after a scrape test. It might be a good idea to go back to the vet.

We have had similar problems with our baby Champ. He has several balding spots now and we have had 3 separate mange tests and all have come back negative. Our vet said that she thinks it's allergy-related but doesn't really suggest the allergy shots as they can be bad for the liver and heart of boxers. So my husband and I have decided to just deal with the patches (i think they're harder on us than on Champ :)) rather than run the risk of hurting his organs. Good Luck!!!
