mange contagious?

My dog has been playing with my friends dog for about two months now and they just realized that their dog has had mange since it was born! is it contagious? is my dog gonna get it? and is it possible for humans to get? thanks for your help

If it is demodectic (the most common) it is not contagious to other dogs or to people.

Enzo has mange, Demodex, right now and I've been told it's not contagious but it just seems fishy to me because a dog that Enzo plays with often had the same form of mange about six months ago (probably the worst case of mange I've ever seen). I know we didn't know that Enzo had it until the vet recommended a skin test when he was getting nutered because he had a bald spot on his head. If you are really worried you can always get your vet to do a skin test. I think my situation was probably just a coincidence.

Demo Mange

If your dog has demodectic mange , it is not contagious. I was very concerned when my baby Milla was diagnosed w/ this because we have another boxer and a 3 yr old child as well and the vet assured me the condition is not contagious. The puppy plays w/ our other dog and sleeps right next to her and we have not had any problems. The vet explained that demo mange is given to the puppy right after birth while the puppy is nursing and the puppy is only able to get the condition for a certain amt of days after they are born. (it's a very short amt.. like 3 or so) I am not a vet so do not know if this is 100% true but this is what I was told.
