Back from the vet, $164 later (agh!). And the verdict is...... bacterial pyoderma. So he is loaded on antibiotics for the infection and prednisone for the itching/swelling, and sucralfate because prednisone tends to upset his GI tract. My poor baby. Vet said it probably started as a bug bite or irritation from allergies that got infected, and then spread.

Thanks for all the advice and ideas, everyone :)

Oh, and the other thing I forgot to mention... I did switch his food from Wellness Core to Evo Red Meat back in March. The local pet food store didn't carry Wellness and Evo had high marks and was grain free, and he liked it. That long ago it wouldn't be a food allergy, would it?

It's funny because we're going thru the same thing right now. I fed Tre - Evo Red Meat for a couple of years... for some reason, he broke out with allergies. Then, I switched his food to California Natural, he did fine for a couple of months, then the allergies went away. I went back to the Evo Red Meat because the ingredients were better. The allergies came back! So, I'm thinking it's the food. After some research, I switched to Taste of the Wild. I'll let you know what happens in a couple of weeks....

When I took Tre to the vet, the vet said Tre's allergies could be a combination of things.... like food, environment, etc...
