male vs female

There are subtle differences in the male and female "personalities" of dogs. Females are usually more independent and can be moody, males are more happy-go-lucky and dependent (i.e. cuddly). I have 2 females and 3 males and all of my males are my favorites (sshhh, don't tell my girls). They cuddle more and seem to need me more. My females are happy just to lie around by themselves and entertain themselves.

I don't think one or the other is better with children.

It is really the dog, and the training that makes it a good pet. I did read somewhere that boxer males don't seem to fit themselves until they are about 18 months old (like they don't realize how big they are). Females are a little better. I don't have a female to compare with, but my 5 year-old has been knocked over quite a few times by Cooper...

I dont think that you could say one was better than the other. Eve (a girl) is the first dog that I got since I moved out of my parents house and I always grew up with female dogs so I guess thats what made me get a female. I plan on getting a male in the furture. But I dont think that you can go wrong with either sex.

I have a friend who swears by males, but as for me it has been females.

With our four young boys, our last boxer was excellent. When we got her, our two oldest boys were three and 18 months. We added two more boys. Through it all, she was patient, watchful, and gentle.

When I got this one, I thought about a male, but I had heard that they can be more challenging as to their place in the family. I wanted a dog who I knew would not try to be "stronger" than my boys (now 4, 6, 8, 10). Emma has adjusted quite well thus far.

I have always had male dogs/pets & I have never had a problem with them. I have 3 children & we always have other kids around. My house is the hang out for all my childrens friends. We have 3 male dogs right now & I would never have it any other way. I maybe be biased about that since I have 3 girls & they drive me :foolicon: so I'm partial to the male species, I have to deal with enough of the female hormones/mood swings. I've heard that female animals are the same way so that in itself is a deterrent for me. ;)
