Hey,

I will be getting my first boxer puppy within a few months and I was wondering what do you think makes the best dog . . . . a male or a female? And which one do you believe is best with children?

Thanks

There is no "best with children "pet sex. It depends on how well trained they are-both the pet and the child- as to how they will interact.LOL

BOTH! How about one of each??????? But seriously sidhewlf is correct it is all in the training. Either can be totally dominate or completely submissive it just depends on each pup.

Blizzy was a female..I could not have asked for a better dog with my daughters. It was like having a fur nanny on hand. She "mothered" them to death! She was that way with all the "small" creatures in our home..the two girls, the 2 cats..and the puppy we pupsat for a few months..

I don't think its a matter of gender but a matter of personality.

Totally agree

I have a female, and she acts just like me.. Loud, loving, and playful. She can be so stubborn or so sweet.. It really depends on personality..

I like Females

I have always prefered females. I am not too sure why. I have never had a male dog before, that could be why. I have a female (Valley bulldog = 3/4Boxer/ 1/4Bulldog) and we always made sure she spend lots of time with children. We do not have any right now, she is our baby, but we want some skin babies someday. She spent alot of time with children of all ages, and she loves kids. If we are at the park, and there is dogs, and children, she goes for the children first. I bet males could be like this too, you just have to let them spend time with children. Also boxer's are the number one family dog!

Well, I agree with all of you. It's just that I had heard that a female boxer would make the best dog. They had said that the male would tend to compete against the child. I really don't know what to think about this. I wouldn't mind getting a female, but my fiancé would like to get a male. So we'll see. But it's like you said, eventually I would love to get one of each.

hmmm... I don't remember who told me that. It's hard to tell which would make the best boxer, I guess it depends on your situation and evrything that will influence the dog. I'm sure that the way you'd train, socialize and interact with the dog will make a huge difference. I guess we'll ahve to wait and see and base our decison once we do see the puppies. We'll have to look at each of their personalities.

I guess it's just personal preference really.
I personally never thought I'd have a male dog, I've always had female pets.
Zeb is my first male pet and only because of reading on this site how 'iffy' it can be to have 2 bitches. I guess I've got all the leg cocking to look forward to on my plants
