My kids are a little bit older (22, 20, 16), but my nephews and neices are younger (from 5-13) and Cain is really good around them unless they start running around, then he gets into the jumping on them, but its just to give them really, really good slobbery kisses lol. When there are no kids around, he is really lazy and calm. My mom has Cain's sister and she is HYPER, both around younger kids and adults alike. She hardly ever slows down at all, but she is a riot thats for sure.

I can only speak from experience with having Mia. From the minute my wife and I brought home our son, she has been extremely attentative and mindful of where he is and who's around him (we have a chihuahua that bites if you provoke him and she wouldn't let him anywhere near Andrew). So yeah, I can see a "Motherly instinct" in her when it comes to Andrew. She's great with him and tolerates alot (jumping, pulling of the nub, poking). Yes there are times Andrew wants to climb on her and she just wants to lay down, when those times arise she just gets up and moves.

I have 1 female and 1 male and a 4yr son. They both are great with him. The female is a little more protective of him. I had a friend come over and was messing with my son and she immediately started growling at him. They tolerate a lot from him, he is always messing with them and they dont do anything to him. As for which one would I prefer to have, I cant choose male or female. They both are great. I guess it is a personal preference....Thanks Carl

My son was 7 or so when Cody came home. They never did become best of friends but Cody is very protective of Hilton. By far Cody is my more obediant pup, sweeter and more loving. He has that "Heart of Gold". Cody is my little angel.
Hilton was 9 when the princess came home. They are the best of friends. He loves that little girl and she loves him. But she doesn't mother him, nor is she overly protective of him. But I think the older she gets she might change a little. They are just the best of play-mates. Aniah is my little devil-child. I love her to pieces but she is such a handful and just not very sweet. She has her sweet moments when she is sleepy, but she is a very demanding pup. She is my first female pup, and I would have to say from my experience I tend to prefer the males. However I can't say that I would never have another female.

Thanks for the reponses. From what i've seen on here (as I don't own a Boxer), females are generally more calm, but they also tend to be more stubborn. I can definatley agree with this. My experiance is that females are much calmer and more protective than males but boy are they stuborn! Males seem to be a little more loving ot at least more than my little girl.

Boxer Buddy
Hi

I can't compare male or female, as we only had our first boxer (male) for 9 months. I have a 4 year old, and Bruno is great with him. He tolerates everything my LO decides to do to him (obviously I always watch them together). When my husband playfight with my LO, and if Bruno thinks he gets too rough, he stands between my LO and my hubby, and puskes hubby's hands away, sometimes growling little, he takes his jumper, or hand in his mouth (never bites) and pulls it away from LO. He is great. Also when my nephew came to visit (he is 16 months old), Bruno was happy for my nephew to follow him, stroke him, and pull his ears, mouth....(again I watched them to make sure it didn't get too much iykwim).
So, I am very happy that we have our Bruno and wouldn't swap him for anyone. But, as long as puppies are used to kids since they are young, I can't see it would make much difference if it's female or male. Every dog is different anyway.
Good luck with the decision.
