It breaks my heart to have to do this but for the love of my dog, I think I must. We've had Rufus for just over a year, having rescued him from a local shelter. The problem is, as often occurs, I had to move for my job and could not find a place with a fenced yard. My landlord will not allow me to put up a fence and Rufus tends to wander if given ANY opportunity.

Rufus MUST HAVE a fenced yard - no exceptions - so if you don't have one that is suitable for containing a Boxer then please do not ask. I love him and I am so torn by having to do this so, if he was going to go anywhere without a fence, I would keep him. However, I do have another Boxer - also male (whom I was repeatedly told by rescues would never work and I have found just the opposite to be the case as they are like brothers) - and Rufus tends to get them both into trouble because Rex will follow wherever Rufus leads but Rex will not wander on his own. So I am being selfish by separating them so that I can at least keep one. Obviously a good home is an absolute must and I would like references, including a vet reference.

Rufus has a wonderful disposition - he's so much more mellow than Rex and is just a happy-go-lucky type of guy. He's a brindle and he has been in excellent health and has been well cared for and is up to date on everything. He loves going for rides in the car - something he was afraid to do when we got him. He had never been inside when we got him - he was afraid of the wall heaters and TV! Although he was not potty trained when we got him, he will not go in the house now unless left for a very long time - I've left him up to 10 hours without any messes. However he does have some other issues with leaving him unattended in the house that you have to be careful about. For example, he will get into the garbage while you are gone if it is accessible to him. He has also been known to get things/knock things off of the counter if food is left out. He does very well on the leash and has been through one obedience class with my then 7 year-old son. He knows how to sit and lay down but can be the most stubborn dog you have ever encountered if he decides he doesn't want to do something.

Rufus is most lovable and is a great joy and a very happy dog. He is an excellent guard dog. I assure you no one in their right mind would come into your house while you were gone, not without having to deal with him anyway. All in all, Rufus is an exceptional dog looking for an exceptional home. Preference will be given to homes with another Boxer and school age kids. And, while I expect it unlikely, someone in my area where I could have visits and he and Rex could see each other would be wonderful.

Thanks, Shelly

shellyinwa -

First, please post your Introduction. This is something required of all members (www.boxerworld.com/rules).

Second, I would recommend you contact your nearest Boxer Rescue. Boxerworld is not a classifieds service, and we do not broker or facilitate adoptions via this website. It is also against the Rules to post any personal information, such as phone numbers, e-mail address, etc..

Best of luck

Sorry

Apparently the rules have changed since I last used this site a year ago when looking for a Boxer. There were many postings of individuals attempting to find homes for their Boxers at that time. Likewise, I had previously posted so was not aware that I had failed to provide an introduction in the past - again, it must be a new thing. At any rate, the Boxer Rescue in WA is not an option for me when it is 5-6 hours away and I do not want to place my dog in foster care while a new home is sought. Please remove my posting if that is what is needed.

Sincerely,
Shelly
