Alot of people have told me that it's best to have a female and a male boxer living together then 2 males because their dominance. We have a loving 8 month old male who really lightens up our home, but now we're looking for him a playmate and companion. Any advice??

If you had to rank them, male/female would be the best (or least likely to have problems), then male/male, and last female/female. It also depends on temperment and age.

I have had 2 boys and they LOVED each other, now that Murph has crossed the bridge, way too early I might add...Hugo is just now coming around to being the dog he was when Murph was around.

I now have male/female Boxers and a male Dane and they all get along fine.

I really think it has more to do with how your boy gets along with other dogs. male or female. Maybe let him choose! :)

I think it totaly depends on the dogs, if you can get a male/male. I had two males and they got along great. One was the alpha and the other was fine with it. Cisco is the alpha of the house now, and if I brought home another male that wanted to be in charge, there would be problems for sure. Cisco is very dominant over my 3 yr old female pom, and she just backs down from him. (she is large for a pom, about 25 lbs) He is just now 10 months and I have very recently noticed his "man in charge" attitude starting to show.
I have heard what you should never do is have two females, even with cats.

Apparantely female dogs are just like us human females..
We fight, we hold grudges and we dont stand down AT ALL!

I have two males ...no problems what so ever..:) They are best buds...play well together ...eat together....nap together. There never was/is a problem is domiance..
As others have said ..it all depends on the dogs & their ages.

Good luck

I've also heard male/female is best. I have male/male both close to the same age, and they get along great aside from their food aggression issues w/ each other. Other than that, they sleep together, play together, etc.

hi I have 2 females and 1 male and I can tell you female/female is not the best it seems in boxers the female is more aggressive at least that is what I have encountered my male is very calm nothing seems to bother him but the girls have little fights over little things I have to keep an eye on them

Not sure how much this relates to your question, but I have two male Chihuahuas and 1 male Boxer.. 1 of the chi's is the alpha and my boxer doesn't mind, but there are times when he kinda flips. :P :O
