male and female pups

hiya im just wondering if you guys could give me some advise

we bought belle and floyd from the same litter and are undecided on neutering floyd at the moment

they have both just turned 4 months old what age should i split them up from each other so they dont breed.

im thinking to see how belles 1st season goes before getting floyd neutered. im only really asking this as today floyd has has his "manly bits" out for the first time

I thought I would search this site for you to see what information has been used in the past regarding neutering. I have never had a male pup, but for the safety of your female (who should also be spayed) and for the sake of the breed and health of the puppies you certainly would not want to chance producing puppies from a brother and sister.

You should split them as soon as you see signs of her going into heat - which should happen anywhere from about 6-12 months of age. BUT, it really isn't fair to have an intact male around a female in heat regardless if there is a door between them. Males have been known to go through doors and crates to get at a bitch in heat. SO, either have the male neutered or send him off while she is in heat OR have them both fixed before that happens.
