Gregory had his second round of shots yesterday. They did a fecal test and he was negative for everything. However, they dewormed him just in case. I just took him on a walk and he had a BM. There was a worm in the stool every bit of 3 to 4 inches long?!?!? Is this normal? How long should I watch his poop for other worms? Also, if he did have worms, why did he test negative?

I'm pretty sure that the fecal test isn't 100% positive, that's probably why they went ahead and dewormed him. And the worm that he passed was probably a roundworm...I'm not 100% on this myself, and I am sure some of the more wisened people here on BW will either concur or correct me. I would always watch his stool, though, even though he is probably on preventitive such as Heartgard or Interceptor which prevents parasites, there's always a possibility that it may not work. My dad's dog was on Heartgard and still contracted Hookworms. But the poop watching kind of lets you know what's going on inside of them and how they're feeling. Not glorious for us, but it has to be done!

Duke had worms when we got him. It also made me made sick. I think Duke passed them for maybe a day. It is good they are getting out though. I have read that worms are as common as fleas. I was a little worried.

Maybe this will help you with the crate and potty situation.
