Hi All

My boxer has, what I think is a lump on one of his testicles. I've made an appointment to see the vet, but I can't help worrying until then. A guy at the dog club I belong to, told me it's normal because my dog sits on concrete at home to get some sun and showed me his dog has it as well.(his dog isn't a boxer though-poor guy, but their plumbing down there should all be the same, surely?) My question is: Does anyone out there with a male boxer know if it is normal?

Thank you

I don't think you can call any lump normal and I would certainly get it checked out. Hopefully it will be nothing. :)

Good luck at the vet!

Things like that are always worth checking out to be sure.

I can say that my boxer had something similar to what you describe as a pup - what essentially turned out to be a small boil on one of his testicles. The vet thought it was most likely caused by sitting on surfaces such as concrete, and hairs being pulled out as a result. It wouldn't be the only possibility though, so worth having it looked at.

Well guys. I finally got to see my vet. She's the busiest vet in my area I think... Anyway, she checked his 'lump' and told me it's not a Marcelle's (sp) tumour but won't rule out a cancerous growth but more than likely it's because he sits on the concrete at home. Her advice was to put Vaseline on the lump and watch it for the next few weeks, but the instant it starts growing rapidly, I need to bring him in, so in November she'll check it again. So, to my neighbours in Cape Town, South Africa... I'm performing vital medical intervention if you see me with a bottle of vaseline whilst working on my dog :)

The vet said that it doesn't seem cancerous because it doesn't have any of the symptoms/signs and he's quite young. She pointed out that because he sits on concrete (when he wants to be in the sun) that's probably what's causing the callous to form on his scrotum, however, as soon as I see that it's growing abnormally, I must take him to see her. At the moment, it looks OK, and worse case scenario, I'll have him neutered if it saves his life because he's my pet and not a breeding machine. :)
