Lump now black

I need some advice! I have been to two vets now but want to check and see if anyone has experienced the same. My 8 year old female boxer had a huge lump come up on her front leg around her shoulder area. I thought she must have gotten bitten by something. I mean it was really swollen. Well, I always over react so I chose to give her bendryl and see what it did. It began to get smaller over the next couple of days. I went out of town and left her with my Mom in Law. The place was still a bit swollen and you could see a spot of black but not big. Sam is a white boxer so you can see her spotted skin thru ther coat. We were out of town 2.5 days. When I return the place is not swollen but black and the hair just peels off. I took her to my vet. Now, I have started to loose confidence in this vet. I won't go into that. Anyway, he said we should get her into surgery and take it off and biopsy it very soon. Well, I know boxers are prone to tumors but Sam is so freaked out by the vet and her age I worry about her being put to sleep and I don't feel comfortable with my vet anymore. I asked could it be a brown recluse spider bite. He said possible but not probable and it was better to do the surgery. I went to another vet and he says to wait a few days. She is on Predisone cand an anitbotic. He said he is not convinced it is not a bug bite. However, Sam had some problems last year with internal bleeding in GI area that disappeared as strange as they appered. She was very sick just a year ago.

does anyone have any advice or clue or same experiences. It would be greatly appreciated. Samantha is my baby and I am so worried and don't know what to do. Do I do surgery or wait.

Is the black area like a scab or more like her skin is black in this area? The reason I ask is I had an issue with my girl at the first of the year that may be similar to this. It started out being what looked like a small scrape. Over time the area kept getting larger and bleeding some. Evantually it became a large scabbed area about the size of a nickel. I took Kira to the vet, and set a surgery date to remove it. During the time before surgery, Kira found the wound on her elbow and began licking at it constantly. By the time surgery date arrived, there was nothing left to do surgery on. Now she has a small bald spot that causes her no trouble at all. Im not sure if this is the same situation for you, but thought I would post about my experience. I would definately say to follow your instincts on what to do.
