Luke has bad gas

Hi all! This last couple of weeks Luke has developed very bad gas. And oooooOOooh does it sstttink! We bought him new treats that are grain free. They use Chickpea flour instead. Other than that I haven't been feeding him anything out of the ordinairy. I thought it may have been the chick peas so we stopped. That was last week however, and he still has the gas. I give him a tablespoon of plain yogurt with every meal. His stools seem fine, their small, white and dry but seems normal.

Is it normal for dogs on raw to have such bad gas? This is the first I've noticed it since we switched. Since we switched the gas has been really good...till now :(

Raw-fed dogs usually have far less gas than kibble-fed ones - it's one of the many benefits of feeding raw

The only thing I find that really gives my dog gas is too much fat - like too much chicken skin or something like that. He'll get indigestion first, but the other effect comes too If you're feeding lots of fat/skin, you may find things settle down if you cut back on that.

Thanks, but I do cut off all the fat & skin off his chicken backs & necks. Not sure what else it could be :(
He gets a wide variety of food thru the week (lamb necks, pork necks, turkey necks, beef mix, ox tail bones) yet he has never smelt this bad before.

Wow - My two raw boxers have the worst gas. They receive no skin and very little fat, however they can clear a room. It has happened with chicken, meat, offal and fish, yet their poop seems to be fine. What else besides fat and skin can cause bad gas?

What kinds of vegs are you feeding ? If he just start to have gas this week try to look at what he is eating and go from there. Any wheat products? My two do not have gas very often.

Lots of things can cause gas - grains are usually the worst, but vegetables can do it too. Things like cabbage, broccoli and beans spring to mind. Dairy products too, if your dog happens to be intolerant (which, for a few dogs, actually means that yoghurt can make things worse )

If you want to test the vegetable thing out - remove them from the diet for a while. If that helps, add them back in one at a time till you find the culprit(s) Same thing applies to anything else he eats, actually. You can determine causes, if any, amongst the RMBs by exactly the same method.

Aaaahhhhhhh wheat products We changed his treats to another brand that has whole wheat flour. We were feeding the Chickpea ones before that are grain free. Thats probably what caused the gas.
Now that you mention it...... we haven't given him too many treats this week and the gas has cleared right up.

yogurt...

some plain none fat yogurt works for my 2. they have the worst gas in teh world!!! bruno can clear out an entire house. but i give them a couple of scoops in there am meal and it seems to work out fine.

Our family got their first boxer when I was ten and she always had bad gas. She would even get up and move because she couldn't stand the smell herself. I now have two lovely ladies (six months old) and ooooooohhhhh does it bring back memories.

I would venture to say that no matter what you feed them, they are just gassy dogs.
