Boxer Pal
Hi everyone,
I picked up my amazing boxer puppy last night (8 weeks old) and have taken him to the vet this morning for another check up by my vet, he has detected a low grade heart murmur.
I have been in contact with my regestered breeder whom assured me it is just a puppy murmur and both parents are heart murmur free but that if after 6 months it was still there then investigate but he can live a normal healthy life with a low grade heart murmor.

Would like some advice, i have waiting very long for Chase (my puppy) and have seen him weekly since the age of 2 weeks. I feel very attatched and only want the best for him.

Would it be worth doing an ultrasound? my breeder whom i trust thinks its a waste of time and told me to do some research on puppy murmurs which i have. Just want to be sure and hear from others who have been through a similar sistuation.

Thank you in advance.

Did your vet grade the murmur as a 1 or a 2? These are considered low grades. Sometimes it is quite possible it is an innocent puppy murmur and they grow out of them and this usually happens by 16 weeks of age. If it were still there at that point I would work towards finding out what the culprit is.
We lost a Boxer to heart issues and when we had Raine at the vet at nearly 9 weeks of age for an exam they heard a murmur but graded it a 2/3. Having just been through a terrible ordeal with Cami and her heart issues our vet was very proactive. We were at the cardiologists office the same day for further investigating. A 2/3 is more concerning and we have learned what is causing it. She will always have the murmur related to stenosis. Only time will tell if it will affect her quality of life in the future. She is now 2.5 years old and so far so good.
If you are dealing with a 1-2 grade then waiting for a bit to see if it goes away would be my next step. I am not a vet however and you need to do what is most comfortable for you. An ultrasound at this point with a 1 or 2 might prove a waste of money. It could show *something* but their hearts are still growing right along with the rest of them. It might go away on its own. If it were a higher grade I would for sure be getting answers.
