I might be wrong... BUT...

I can't find anything in their website, but I'm pretty positive that we're not supposed to use a gentle leader with a retractable leash... I think I read it in the instructions when I first purchased it.... Anyone care to correct me?

Anyways... I'm so sorry that happened to you guys!... what a scare!!! but thanks for sharing, I'm sure a lot of us are going to be holding our dogs a lot closer when crossing a bridge...

Jaime probably didn't mean to stir up this much controversy LOL!! but am I the only person out there who won't rollerblade with their dog?

When I was involved in rescue there was a woman who let her neighbor boys play/walk/run with her dog. One day they took him and put on their rollerblades. Not a big deal until they ended up running over the dogs feet. YOUCH!!

After that I kind of shied away from it. My dogs aren't the best walkers in the world. I've also thought that it would be hard to control if one of them couldn't resist the urge to chase a squirrel, etc. :) Let alone jump off a bridge...

The luckiest thing about your bad luck was that the bridge was over a river and not a rocky ravine.

I'm sure most of us have had disasters or near disasters as a result of unforseen circumstances.

It goes to show, there is no such a thing as being too careful.

What a scary experience. Fortunately it had a happy ending.

Jamie we are all glad to hear Louie is good and didn't get hurt. I can't imagine that!! What a scare- -Kiki loves the water, but I don't think she can swim very well....Poor guy- -glad he's alright.;)

Nicole510 - I won't rollerblade with Apollo either. A friend of mine was out blading with a dog who took off after something. The scars on her knees and legs were sufficient to convince me it wasn't a great idea. Besides...I'm not the world's greatest blader anyhow! I'm still trying to figure out how Jamie made it down the hill in the blades without killing herself! Glad everyone is okay.

Hi you guys. I wanted to reply to a couple of things. I haven't heard that you're not supposed to use a retractable leash with a gentle leader, I'll have to look into that.

As far as rollerblading with Louie. I was not able to do that until I got him the gentle leader. He would drag me and leave me cut up and bleeding if I had him on his regular collar. But he won't put even 5 pounds of resistance with his lead on. My brake on my blades provides plenty of resistance to slow him down, and stop him if necessary. He's really good at staying to the right of me, so I don't run over his toes. We have had some close calls, but he learned quickly to stay away from my wheels.

But staying away from the bridge is another story. I highly doubt he'll do that again. It will be a while until I feel comfortable enought to take him out again. He's safer at home, and away from bridges.

Oh, and Nicole510

So was the naked guy hot? LOL!!
Yuck. Hot is not the term that springs to mind...

Thanks to everyone that replied to my post. Thanks for all of your kind words.

Jaime....glad both you and Louie are okay! Your angels were with you for sure! Scary what our fur-babies can do to take a few years off our lives! Safe to say that he may think twice about doing that again! I applaud you for including Louie in your excercise routine. It's good for him too, and I bet he loves it! I cycle with Xena trotting right beside me...on her lead....never had a problem with it.
Now....as for the naked guy.....geeeeezzzz.....all I can say is it's a good thing for him that Louie was at home!!smashicon He would have found out pretty quick how boxer's love to play with just about anything!!! (eeewwwwww!!!);) I'm sure "yuck" was putting it mildly.....jerks like that are usually not what we refer to as "eye-candy"!!:p
