If they are outside playing, they will drink more water. You also have to remember that with those drooping boxer lips, 1/2 the water they drink ends up back out of their mouth and on the floor.:p

My boxer is 4 1/2 months old and I remember thinking the very same thing! Then I got used to it.

Our pup does not have access to water the majority of the day while she is in her crate so as to avoid accidents. So during the evening when we are at home she drinks a ton. There have been times in the middle of the night she has woken me up just to have a drink of water!

I also agree with the fact that most of the water ends up on the floor anyway wo it appears they drink more than they really do.

When Bosco was about 4 months old he would also seem to drink water all of the time. Now I don't seem to notice him at the water bowl as often, but when he does get a drink, he really gets a drink! Most of the time he will drink the whole bowl when he is thirsty.

Some dogs just drink more than others, but it can also be a sign or disease. It wouldn't hurt to have your dog checked out by your vet just in case.

I know this to be true. When Rocky developed kidney disease in his later years, he developed much more of a thirst. Our vet advised us to always have water accessible, but not let him "tank up" because if they take in too much water at a time, their stomach can twist (gastric torsion), which is extremely dangerous.

I would also suggest discussing it with the vet. It might be perfectly normal for him, but you want to be sure. One of the boxers I had as a child had kidney disease (very young) and drinking a lot of water was one of the symptoms. The vet had my mom measure the amount of water she (the dog) was drinking for several days so he could determine if it was within the normal range.

Don't get too nervous about it -- just have it checked out. Any illness will be easier to manage if you catch it as early as possible. I will tell you that my parent's current boxer drinks TONS of water and he is perfectly healthy at 9 yrs, so yours might be just fine!

I think that they definitely don't get as much as it seems because of their drooping lips. When apollo and phoenix drink the floor and i seem to getting a lot of it. And watch out if they shake their head right after drinking,

I have 2 Boxers, an adult and a puppy, and I feel like we're constantly filling up their water bowls, even though they have 4 of them!!! 2 in the house and 2 in the den.
