On Friday, October 8, I lost my closest friend, neighbor, dog walker/sitter, and soulmate. His name was Michael. I always liked to say we had a "Will and Grace" type of relationship. We had been on vacation all week together, working on a brick patio at my house (we had taken vacation together last year and built a brick sidewalk at his house). We had dinner together every evening that last week of his life, some just the two of us and some with friends. On Friday, he didn't come over for coffee like he always does, and I thought that was strange, but I thought maybe he was tired and was sleeping in. Then he didn't show up for work. I had a key to his house, so his boss, his brother and I went to his house and found him dead in bed. The autopsy showed an enlarged heart. He was a big part of our neighborhood, he worked at the neighborhood diner, and he was always helping out people in the neighborhood. This was very unexpected and we are devastated. The dogs miss him, especially Jenna, who was totally in love with him. Tess hasn't sang her greeting song since he died. I miss him terribly. The funeral was lovely, lots of people, and great stories, but now it's back to normal, and my life just doesn't seem normal without him. Please say a prayer for Michael, he was truly one of a kind.

I'm so sorry about Michael! I do know how lost you feel when you lose your best friend. I lost my best friend of 35 years, two years ago, and I'm still lost without her. You just can't replace a good friend like that overnight, or ever!! I cherish all the memories I have of her, and you will cherish your memories of Michael, too!! And you will feel, if you don't already, very grateful to have had a friend like that in your life!!

I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. My heart goes out to you and his family, and of course the dogs who also miss him so much.

Oh Gretchen my thoughts are with you during this difficult time. I wish there was more I could say to ease your pain. I lost a dear friend, it will be two years this Halloween, unexpectedly and it has been the hardest loss I have experienced. I am young and have been fortunate so far. The pain will ease with time and you will be reminded constantly of the good times you shared and it will bring a smile to your face when you have these memories. Please accept my deepest sympathies. I will keep Michael in my prayers.
