Thank you all for the latest stories of grief and adoption, and kind words. I came into the office today glad to have the weekend behind me (as nice as it was to reflect, throwing myself into work will keep my mind off of the tear-jerking moments), only to find some of Loki's toys under and on top of my desk. She was a regular visitor at my office, meaning there is no escape from this heartache.
Still, I'm grateful to all of you for the words of advice. We've decided as a family to look into adopting a new puppy in late spring/early summer. Bringing a puppy into the house during this cold Chicago winter would prove too difficult, but during the summer when our teenager is home from school, training and playtime should be much easier. I'll be able to take my vacation then and spend some time with the new pooch.
Nothing and no one can ever replace Loki, but a new doggie can certainly warm our hearts once again.
Your stories of grief have made one thing clear. Wherever Loki is, she is in mighty fine company.
