First of all, please post your Introduction. A Copy of the Rules can be found HERE

As for the hair loss, you should really take him to the Vet. It could be Mange, or Seasonal Flank Alopecia. There really is no way to tell just by looking at a photo

I am having the same problem with my pup, went to the vet 3 weeks ago and had skin scrapings done, I called today and they said they would call later with the results, they gave her an antibiotic to take for the past 3 weeks, she is very healthy otherwise.

Both of my boys look very similar this. I feel horrible but there is nothing I can do, they have seasonal flank alopecia. We have tried heading it off with melatonin but I apparently am harder to train than they are because I just cannot remember to give them the darn pills LOL . If he is itching I would certainly take him to the vet and have him checked for mange. Another possibility could be his thyroid(manageable with meds). But, with summer just around the corner if it is seasonal flank alopecia he will probably regrow his hair soon(mine do anyways). Good luck!!

Hello, I saw your posting and I wanted to say don't stress too much. My Rocco has the exact same thing. I did end up taking him to the vet and they did a thyroid test on him and found that he is borderline Hypothyroid. Although one of the signs is hair loss he does not have any of the other symptoms. The vet said that if he wasn't losing his hair she would not medicate him but he has been on the meds for a couple of weeks and his hairloss is getting worse. I also found out that there is a condition called Seasonal Follicular Dysplasia that is very common in boxers. We are now thinking that that is the source of his hairloss. In any event there is not much you can do for that. It is seasonal and it should grow back. Also If you are worried about the dark skin it is probably from your dog sitting in the sun . My dog loves the sun and although I try to keep in from doing it because of skin cancer problems he always finds a spot somewhere in the house. Since he has no hair the skin gets really dark. Anyway it is a good idea to get the thyroid checked anyway . I know when I first brought my dog to the vet she thought allergies but since I knew hypothyroid is common in boxers I asked for the test. At the moment I am waiting it out to see if the hair grows back.
