I have heard that one, and different variations on "looks like your dog has chased too many parked cars" when I had my last boxer.

It got to where it pretty much rolled off my back, but I really wanted to say something like "well that was original...I've Never heard that one before." in a really sarcastic voice.

Why do these people, first, think they are so clever when they say something like this, and second, think it is at all appropriate to say something like that about someones obviously beloved pet?

People are clueless.

I guess I'm the freak in that I say these things to my dogs lovingly. I call Riley all sorts of names, like Stumpy and Mushy. Piglet, the Chi/Corgi mix, is really named Phoebe - she got her name of Piglet because she runs like one. Buster (the Chi/Lab mix) is frequently called "unlovable cur" and "freak of nature"... the second should be pretty obvious.

I've found it puts non-Boxer people at ease. "Oh, yeah, she LOOKS like she caught a parked car, but all she wants to do is kiss you. A lot." They're clowns, and I'm sure they don't mind making people laugh good-naturedly. And I've learned that people who may be nervous around a Big Muscley Dog With A "Mean" Face generally relax when I don't come off as one of those weirdos who is proud of the dog being big and scary.

However, if someone said something really awful, I'd probably just give a liberal dose of the Evil Eye and be on my way. I've got better things to do with my time than worry about opinions I didn't ask for. Things like playing with my big flat-faced dog. :D

Great response! I consider myself a pretty witty person-unfortunately I only think of the witty comebacks after the fact when my mind is no longer clouded by anger :p I get these comments sometimes too and they always tick me off but, you know, for every one person that says Roxy (or boxers in general) is ugly there's another ten who think she's gorgeous. A lady just this morning told me that she thought Roxy was beautiful. So, slowly but surely (and I do mean slowly), I'm learning to let these "ugly" comments slide off. :D

I have a had few people make comments like, oh they are so ugly they are cute. Boxer owners know they are not so ugly that they are cute, but rather they are so cute they are irresistable!!! And they look puppy like forever. Great comeback though, Do people even think before they speak??? I mean there are plenty of breeds that I do not find appealing, but I would never say that to someone who owns one, It's like telling someone their kid isn't cute. People amaze me with their ignorance!!! - Kate

Good for you! Someone (my upstairs neighbor) said my baby boy was ugly, I turned to him and said "No, your the one that is ugly" and waited for a response. He obviously was in shock because not one more word came out of him.

We do what we got to do. Our babies are not ugly. They are one of the most beautiful creatures bestowed on this earth. lovicon

Thankfully I have never had to experience an idiot such as that. Congratulations on your quick witted comeback. I am usually not so quick witted (I am getting better at it though). I am astounded that people actually think that boxers are ugly; how could you not love those faces!!!!:D
