I joined this site to do my research on a breed I believed would suit me and my fiancee's life style. A boxer would be a perfect edition to our family. We don't have kids and not having them any time soon...our dog would be our child. I'm continuosly checking humane society/rescue shelters, but apparently there are not very many boxers in this area I guess, or no homeless ones anyways. I also have a problem with these places slapping a tag on its cage saying it's a boxer when I don't see how they possibly could be! I'm timid in rescuing a boxer that doesn't turn out to be the breed of dog I want. Any help is greatly appreciated! This is a great educational tool!

Going through a Boxer rescue is a GREAT way to go. That is how I got my very first Boxer. The people that turned him over were having a baby and didn't want "germs". They turned over a great dog. He was my constant companion until he passed away. When my twin sons were born he was right there when we brought them home (he had followed me EVERYWHERE throughout my pregnancy). One evening the twins were colicky and their dad had one of them in the living room, I had the other in the back of the house inthe bedroom with the Boxer also. I kept telling him to lay down and he paced and paced and then when the other baby was in the room and in the crib with his brother, Riddick laid down and went to sleep. It was so neat that he knew they weren't together!

Other than counter surfing, which is typical of a Boxer, Riddick had NO bad manners. The people that had him taught him tricks and really worked with this dog only to give him up at 2 1/2 because of "germs".

Good luck in your search. Once you've had a Boxer you're hooked! :)
