I also feel that you may be jumping the gun a bit. Has he hurt her in past(outside the normal rough and tumble injuries we get while playing with them)? Training is the key word here. You have plenty of time to teach Thor to not jump on your wife inappropriately.

I just recently went through a pregnancy and brought a new baby home, and Chief was wonderful. He definitely has a jumping problem, it never became a big deal until I was pregnant. I was never worried about it, but my husband was always paranoid. I am the "mommy" and caretaker, so he WENT NUTS every time I walked in the door.

You can teach them to stop jumping, and also...it really takes ALOT to hurt a pregnant woman. That baby is well protected and will not be hurt by a dog jumping on her...any doctor will tell you that. I still played and rough housed with Chief right through my 9th month.

The day I brought the baby home, I walked in carrying him in my arms. Chief came and stood CALMLY at my feet and NEVER JUMPED! He has been the baby's little protector since day one

Please give it more thought if that is the only reason......

Boxers are so gentle with children and want to protect them from any harm at any cost...I work in maternity and have patients all the time that bring a new baby home with puppies and adult dogs...my friend had a baby recently and they have two boxers at home...it sounds like you really love this dog and really don't want to give it up if you don't have too...could you maybe rethink this and think about a dog obedience class before the baby comes to help you train the dog?? just a thought

Its sad that you have to try and find a new home for him. I am currently looking for another boxer but I live too far away unless flying is in option. Can you post pictures of him. I usually go through the photo gallery here every other day and rotate my desktop background because I am obsessed with my two boxers I have now.

Just to inform whom might be reading this post, I am looking for a third boxer to fulfill my endless love with boxers. My wife said she wants 3 kids (boxers) we already have 2 and just waiting for the right one to be the third. We cant do a female only a male because of already having one female in our family.

You could try a squirt bottle filled with water. When he jumps up, tell him "ah-ah!" ("no" tends to get over-used) and then give him a little spritz. If you can get him to sit, then follow-up with a reward. Boxers *are* bad about jumping up (I've been punched in the thighs about a thousand times by my foster dogs and my own dogs), but with some work and consistency, they can be trained!

Here's something my behaviourist told us to do if you have a dog thats too excited at the door. Keep their favorite treat or toy by the door when your wife comes to the door the dog gets its favorite treat which distracts the dog when she gets home by the time the treat is gone they are not as excited. Also there is the tree stance where you fold your arms and stare at the sky dogs don't jump up whenb you do this. Hope you get to keep your boxer if not Rescue is the way to go we have tons of people on our waiting list

Boxers are amazing with sensing things when it comes to kids, babies and pregnancy. They all the sudden become really gentle and seem to instinctly know! My friend was the same way! After she had the baby they brought him home and their dog was so excited, but never jumped up and just calmly walked over to the baby and had a sniff. Now he sits calmly beside the baby and watches over everything!

It might take a bit of re-training but it will be worth it. Especially if your son loves Thor. It would be sad for him to have to go.

But if you decide that you must...Rescue is the best way to go

It is always difficult to make a decision to rehome a beloved pet, however, you must do what is right for you, and the mere fact that you came here, to a place where you know that Boxers are well-loved shows that you have both the best interests of your family and your Boxer at heart.

I would love to adopt Thor, unfortunately, I am too far away for it to be feasible for us.

I believe that you are doing the right thing by seeking other Boxer Lovers to rehome him, and support your decision.

You have some time to find the right home for Thor, you don't need to rush.

There may be a local Boxer lover to you that just hasn't crossed your path yet.

I had rescued a coon hound mix several years ago and I was able to use a site called petfinders dot com to place her here in PA, and I still keep in touch with the new parents. She was abandoned near my home, and at the time I did not want to permanently keep her.

We had her for 2 months before we found the right parents for her. We interviewed three sets of parents before placing her. Thor's fate is in your hands, so please take your time with this. It is a hard decision to make, however, you are doing what you see as best for all parties involved.

Another suggestion: Contact your veterinarian and ask if their office is aware of anyone who may be interested in adopting Thor. Your vet may know someone who has a special fondness for Boxers and will also know Thor's personality a bit.

Sorry to hear about this, for Thor. Don't mean to jump on the bandwagon, but I see absolutely nothing some serious obedience won't fix. I have worked hard w/my dog and she at times has her set backs, but I chose her and she has no one, but my wife and I. I could never get rid of her. Work hard on obedience, find a trainer to help you, research online. You will be fine and so will Thor.
