Hello All, I am hoping to get some feed back on this. Shelby, who will be 6 on August 10th, is in the "hospital". Last night, she was acting a little strange before we all went to bed, she had to be on my lap at all times (this isnt real strange, she thinks she is a lap dog anyway, but all she did was sit and hang her head), she would take no "bait" to play with either my son or with her boxer sister, Ariel. She also refused popcorn which was the BIG sign she just didn't feel well. We went to bed at about 11 and I was awoke at 1:30 to what I thought was Ariel being mean to the cat. It was Shelby trying to stand. As soon as I talked to her and calmed her down she lay and was fine. I started to walk to the rest room and she tried to follow. She couldnt walk. I then picked her up and carried her into the kitchen. We sat on the floor and that is when I noticed her eyes, the were constantly moving back and forth. Her head and whole body was all wobbley, and she was also shaking like a leaf.
By 2:15 my husband and I were meeting the vet. My first thought was stroke. His was inner ear. She does have fluid in both he said. He gave her three shots. One to calm her, a antibiotic, and cortizone to help infamation. And we settled her in her spot for the rest of the evening after the shot to calm her started to kick in. This vet is scaring the beegeebee's out of me. He said, if she is going to get better it takes 2 to 3 days. If not, then it could be a tumor or something like that causing all this. With Boxers he say's, you never know what can happen.
She has had yeast problems with her ears all her life, she even had seizers up until she was about 8 months. Nothing like this has happened before though and it is so scary.
I am going in this morning to check on her and to give and get more info. But in the mean time....has anyone got anything to share??? Good or Bad. Please say a prayer for our Sunshine Shelby either way.

Im very sorry to hear Shelby is unwell.
Boxers do suffer from many strange things and a lot of them appear bad , but often respond to medications.
Lets hope Shelby can be helped and recovers from this.
she sounds like a real trouper and thats half the battle!
Sending positive vibes to you all.

Update

Boy I can sure tell I was upset this morning when I wrote my first post...Shelby will be 5 not 6 for heaven's sake. Anyway, I stopped by to check on her at about 7:30 this morning and she was still not able to stand, but her eye's are not "twiching" as badly. And she did manage a slight "stump wiggle". :) I tried to get her to take some water but she wanted nothing to do with it, so I just dipped my fingers in and wetted her jowles and tonge for her. The Vet, Dr. Overmyer, said that if she didn't start drinking by this afternoon, they would either do some fluid under the skin or IV to keep her hydrated.
I just called back at 2:30 and she has taken a "bit" of water, but not enough so they are going to give her some fluid under the skin. Her eye's continue to improve but she still is wobbley. So she stay's another night.
This is the first time I have delt with Dr. Overmyer and I must say I really like this vet. I said again I was sorry for getting him up at 1:30 in the morning to drive a half hour for my Shelby, but he told me to not say it again, because she needed him and I did the right thing by calling. I am thankful for this clinic who has vets that are like this. I do like my Girl's reg. vet, but she will not do after hour time. She refers you to a emergency clinic in FT Wayne that is about 45 min away, and quite pricey too I might add.
Keep the good vibes coming...she's feeling them as well as I.
Thank You!!!

Shelby, and your family will be in our prayers and thoughts, Luckily since I am in a small town my vet does 24 hour care. Or i am not sure what we would do in an emergency. Please keep those updates coming.

Nolie, I'm so sorry your little girl is so sick. Did your vet mention anything about her being vestibular? Does she have a head tilt? I have seen dogs with vestibular problems and their eyes go back and forth. She probably can't walk because she is somewhat dizzy. Have they given her anything for motion sickness, I know it may seem crazy but somtimes that helps alittle. That's probably the reason she doesn't want to eat or drink anything also. Does he think it may from her ears? I will diffently keep Shelby and your family in my prayers, please keep us updated on your little girl.

Sending you warm boxer vibes! It's so hard to cope with having our beloved furbabies away from us. Barron was hospitalized for one night and I could not wait until I could pick him up the next day. It sounds as though you have a wonderful and supportive vet, which makes me believe that he is caring for your furbaby as you would.

New Update

Wow....Boxer Vibes do it again!!! Thank's to all that have posted and or been sending good vibes and prayers our way. I stopped in to see Shelby this morning and she stood up (still wobbley but UP) and was kidney beaning!!!!!!! WHOO HOOO!!! The nurse put her hands on her hips and said, " Well, I just tried to get her up and she just gave me a look." LOL :p
She wanted to see if she would go outside and she was more than happy to go. The nurse put a towel around her tummy and helped support her back end, and I lead and supported the front and she went waddling along, sniffing everthing on the way. We stayed outside with her mostly just loving me and me loving on her, when after about 5 minutes she decided that was long enough and she stepped up on the deck and waited at the door to go back in.
She still doesn't want to drink by herself, but I got her to take about 20 CC's of water. Her eye's are barely twitching at all now, and she was still standing when I left, not real sturdy yet, but WOW what an improvement!!!
The nurse explained (and made sence) that it probabley still hurt her ears a bit to swallow (think of yourself having a really bad ear ache and trying to drink or eat) plus her tummy might still be upset from being dizzy so long, so she is just plain not hungry or thirsty.
She did go potty in her cage (nurse said she look horrifide that she did so when she came in to clean her cage, true Shelby style), so that is another good sign.
I have to call back this afternoon to see if she has made more progress and hope she may even get to come home tonight!!!
Keep them vibes coming all!!! Thank's so much!!!
