Obviously I’m new here. I've been doing a lot of browsing and learning.

I’m so excited, my little girl will be ready to bring home at the end of May. Four weeks and 2 days! Tick tock. I would describe her but we haven't decided which of the 2 to take. It depends on her personality.

I live in Central MA. I’m looking for a vet in my area that provides alternative medicine in addition to traditional and won’t give me a hard time about the raw diet. I’ve decided to start our new pup and our old cat on this, mostly b/c of what I've read here.

That’s why I came here, specifically for the raw diet thread. Does anyone use the Raw prey model instead of BARF?

Thanks

I realize I didn't actually ask the question I had in mind. Is there anyone in MA that can help me find what I'm looking for?

And how do I edit my posts. It says I can, but I don't see where that option is.

Thanks, C

I do the prey model on all three of my dogs and won't ever, never, ever go back to kibble. I would eat salads the rest of my life so I can afford the meat for them. It was a miracle cure for my staffy and a preventative diet for my boxer. The mix is just along for the ride and enjoying every morsel of it.

I can only attest to the prey model being the absolute and only reason my staffy is "a healthy, normal dog" today.

As for the editing option.....I think once you post a certain amount of posts, the option is then available for you. So get posting! LOL

I would have to agree 100% with LilyLarue. Tyson had problems, I started him on raw, and you'd never know he had poo problems. It is a true miracle. And they thrive so much on raw. I currently feed AM kibble & PM raw or the other way around. The only reasons I do the kibble is because family thinks raw is disgusting, and if grandma & grandpa need to Tysonsit, they won't be grossed out either.
If your interested in raw there is alot of helpful and informitive threads in the raw forum,

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!!!!

I'm going to pick her up tomorrow, Sat the 23rd. Whoooo Hoooooo!! Can ya tell I'm very excited?

Any suggestions for food shopping tonight? I've been procrastinating b/c I'm nervous. She's eating Blue Buffalo Puppy right now but I do NOT want to keep that going. As of last Friday she's 7.2 lbs.

And as far as a vet that supports a raw diet. I'm not even going to say anything. I already had a head to head about NO ACE.

I'm by no mean an expert but from everything I've heard when starting on raw, begin with chicken. I purchase whole chickens at my local grocery store & quarter them up for my girl. You'll want to add a little organ meat in there as well. You'll definitely have to help him/her a lil bit by putting some slices into the meat until they get used to it. Also, remove the skin I've heard it can upset there tummy. I know there's a lot of rules when it comes to puppy raw feeding do some searches, there is TONS of good advice out there!

Puppy will be a little stressed when she first comes home so you might want to think about keeping her diet the same for a little while (we chose to do this) just until she settles in. We swaped to raw about a month after our pup came home and what we did was start with chicken (only because it was easiest to get) and slowly introduced other kinds of meat and eventually offal. In my reasearch on the forum and other raw sites just about all said to start with one type of meat, in our case chicken and add other kinds one by one, we then introduced Kangaroo, then beef, rabbit, lamb, turkey etc (dh says she gets more variety than he does). When adding offal I started by adding 10% of what she should be having checked her poop was okay then went up to 25%, 50%, 75% then the whole amount of offal she should be having.
Have fun and enjoy her while she's little, they seem to grow up so quickly!
