I'm absolutely furious. This is in the county next to mine. As soon as I read it I knew the security officer probably did it because Boxers in this area are constantly mistaken for pit bulls, and Fredericksburg has had several pit attacks in the past few months. I'm so sad for poor Socks and her owners, I'm actually contemplating sending them flowers if I can locate their apartment number.

I live in the county next door too. I'm soooo upset I just wonder if there is anything we can do. I will say I have not really had a problem with my babies being called Pit bulls but all my neighbors are educated and not idiots like some the area.

I just spoke with DH. It was on the news that our commonwealth attorney is looking into the matter and charges will probably be filed today against the security guard. I hope that Socks gets her justice.

I can't believe this! The dog was just out to relieve itself and it was with someone yet this moron with a gun decides it's ok to open fire for no reason? There is no reason to shoot an animal unless it is viciously attacking someone and will not release the person. That man should NOT have a gun! I just keep thinking "that could happen to anyone, what if it was me?". I would be a complete basket case. I feel horrible for that poor family. Rest in peace sweet baby

Words can not express my anger and sadness after reading this article. I actually grew up in the county next to this one. I really hope the attorney general and whoever else gets involved to get Socks justice at the very least. It sounds like such a cover up by all and this poor family is left without their baby. Cleo's mom please keep us updated if you hear any new news.

I am in shock after reading this. I don't understand (I'm sure no one does) how an animal urinating, with someone no less, is a threat. Pit bull or not that isn't the issue. The dog plainly was not a threat. I can't imagine how this poor woman must feel. I hope this lowlife scumbag gets what he deserves. He shouldn't be in possesion of a weapon. Whats next a 5 year old with a squirt gun?
