Liver Disease

My female boxer, Chloe (2), was diagnosed with degenerative liver disease approx. 1 year ago. I've been told that there is no cure and that she would be lucky to live until the age of 5. I am wondering if anyone is familiar with this disease and if you know what is to be expected. The vet said that she is not currently in any pain and he would tell me when it was her "time". The problem was discovered when we went to have her fixed as they had tested the functions of all her internal organs. She has been on and off of different medications which do seem to make her feel better. One time, she was so sick though that she became very disoriented and drooled uncontrollably. She was bumping into walls and could not walk. I love my baby very much but don't want to see her suffer.

I just wanted to say that I am so sorry to hear about Chloe. I will be thinking of you and hoping you can share a few more years with her.

Thank you Linda! I will try to update on her progress. She sees a specialist once every 2 months or so....

Polly, I'm very sorry about poor Chloe. You know, there are medical breakthroughs every day, it seems, so maybe they'll find a medication or cure for her disease before she gets too bad off.

So sorry to hear about your baby. My heart goes out to both of you. Ask your vet for some liver specialists and see if there is anything else you can do. And please, keep us posted.

Thank you everybody for your prayers! Chloe is going to the vet next week for her check up. The vet she sees is a specialist. He is the top internal specialist in the area. His name is Dr. Taylor, he is wonderful. I will update on her progress!

Best of luck to you and Chloe at her next vet appointment. I am not familiar with degenerative liver disease but am hoping that everything works out for you! Chloe will be in our prayers....
