Little stinkers!

Hey everyone!
Well I am stumped on what else to do with this little dilema. Ever since Niki our new brindle girl came into our home I have been unable to keep the house smelling fresh like it used to! Rocky gets a bath once a week due to his staff infections, therefore he's always smelling clean. Niki gets his slobber on her but she gets wiped down with baby wipes once or twice a day to keep her clean as well.
Now.. they're both indoor dogs, only go out for their walks and on the weekends to the park and so on. But now when you walk into my house this smell of dog is so strong... ??...

I sweap and mop the house various times a day, but it'll stay smelling clean for about an hour :rolleyes: Febreeze has become my best friend but still the doggy smell comes back.

Any idea of what to use to have my home smelling fresh again? And why is the house smelling like that when they're both kept very clean and fresh?

Any advice would be appreciated! I love my fur babies but the smell drives me crazy Doesn't help with my OCD

Not positive but we think Febreeze was the cause of Nestle's head tremors. I used to Febreeze all the time and once I stopped, she stopped having the head tremors so keep an eye out for that.

We don't have a stinky problem but we don't have our 2nd dog yet. haha.
We use those little battery air freshener fans they sell. I can't remember the name of them. They are like $8 at the drugstore. And, they don't have that horrid air freshener smell like the canned stuff.

Hey Elyse, thanks for the heads up on Febreeze, I'm going to have to research that. I'm such a fan of it, in my car, room, and home, but never thought it could possibly cause them harm.

I've tried the air fresheners all over the house, air filters, and constantly spraying the house with Lysol. BUT.. didn't think about trying the battery opperated air fresheners.

When it was Rocky I never had a problem with the smell, but once the second was added it all changed Maybe its because they play hard, who knows.

Actually, yes that most likely is the problem Or more specifically, it is their slobber causing the smell - and slobber is always produced in far greater quantities when they're playing. Only real answer (though not necessarily that practical) is to encourage them to play outdoors only.

I was having the same problem and with 4 dogs, one with skin allergies, it can really stink up the place. Last spring I had gone to a home/garden/landscaping show and there was a product called Fresh Air by EcoQuest. I listen to the presentation and still alittle skeptical. They offer a free 30 day trial period, so I took it home that day. To my amazement after 24 hours my house is smelled fresh and clean everyday since then...I hate to say it, but I only clean every other week. ELYSE - what do you mean by head tremors??? I too use Febreeze all the time!! I think I will discontinue.

Nestle would be fully awake and aware and her head would shake from side to side and she didn't even know it was happening. It was a year ago that it stopped. We were at the vet several times and I started to stop with my household products one by one to see if maybe that was the cause and after I stopped Febreeze they stopped. About a month after that I took out a fleece blanket that was away for a while that had been febreezed and after a month of not having the the shakes she had them. I washed the blanket and (knock on wood) she has not had them since. I don't know if it was the cause and I am not about to test it or coincidence but I would not want any other boxer mommy or daddy so see that...

Febreeze

Don't worry about using Febreeze. I have read that there is no evidence that it is harmful to household animals. However, to be safe, do not let them on wet furniture or carpet to which Febreeze has just been applied. Just let it dry and you shouldn't have much problem.

Hmmm - well there's the problem with believing everything we read. There are always conflicting things to read about whether a product is harmful or not Recently in the UK we've been bombarded with reports of the many ailments thought to be caused by air fresheners, disinfectants and so forth. So do we believe it or not? Up to you, but I'd say Elyse has exactly the right idea - if you see an adverse effect on yourself, your family or your pets that seems to be related to a particular product - then stop using it. LOL - as the article points out, if you want to freshen the air in your home, squeezing a lemon into the air will do the job just as well as a store-bought air freshener
