I have been at my sister's for a week or so as it's school holidays and the kids are off. Lucy is such a BITER. She will just start biting my nephew all the time - pulling at his clothes etc. It is annoying too coz he will do things to make her crazier (although i have told him not to!). I am thinking about puppy school - the breeder told me I shouldn't let her be with other dogs till she has her other set of vaccinations -but then she wouldn't be allowed to do anything till the beginning of JUNE. that is so far away for a little one!
I am going to talk to the vet tomorrow. she is so cute though. She is now 9 weeks old! :)

 This reminded me of when Biff was that age, and the grandkids all came to stay - I had to spend more time training THEM how to behave with a puppy, than I did with Biff!

Please make getting her jabs your priority now - this is the most important thing you can do for your puppy. I know it's hard keeping them in, when you want to get out there and show them off, but it will be worth it in the end. June is not so far off, and you can still have lots of fun until them

I'm sure your vet will agree :)

Actually I talked to the girl who ran the puppy school today and she said that she can see the breeder's view on keeping Lucy away from other puppies but she said that to start training her we should be starting now.... I don't know what to do... I didn't take my boys out till they were fully vaccinated... but they were older when I got them. The girl said the longer you leave it - the harder they are to train..

I tend to agree with the trainer as that socialization period is so short. I think any dog can learn to obey with the proper instruction but that window for socialization is so brief and so important. I took my pups to puppy class before their final shots with other like age pups. So they were only with puppies, not older dogs and certainly not sick dogs. The place I went sort of specialized in puppy romps so I felt comfortable and never had a problem. I think you need to do what you are most comfortable with. The breeder of my last girl would not have had her out and about before all her shots but I did what I did with my others so... The most important thing is to avoid any sickly looking dogs and stay away from areas where they pee and poop. Good luck!

Tankstman

Tank is 11wks, and yesterday he went to puppy kindergarten. They wanted him to have his 2nd round of shots which he has. They should let you know what and when the best time to go is. It will make a big difference in how she acts. Also I have enrolled him in basic obedince class. I really don't think that he can be to young. I feel that if you can get them into good habits at a young age, it will make a happier puppy, happier you, and a happier (and not chewed up) home. I can't wait to see how Tank does in class. My puppy class allows Tank to go every Monday night till he is 6 months old, and he will go every Monday. Hope this gives you some more insight.

All the boys in our house tease the dog! I yell and yell at them but they dont listen! I could just beat them all I'm probably the only one that Sarge doesnt try to chew on. He knows I'll just give him lovin no rough housing unless we're outside playing. What does a person do when the skin kids are untrainable!

maybe you could give the skinkids away? hehehe ;)
At least Lucy doesn't have to be around my nephew all the time - I think everyone has to be trained when there is a new furbaby (no matter what age) in the house! (maybe take the skin kids to obedience classes heheh):)

i would ring a local vet and ask when she has to have her next round of shots and ask would it be ok to take to Lucy to puppy class, i think after 8wks would be ok if she has had her shots up to then but i have heard not till their 12 weeks.
