Frazier has changed his sitting position over the past year. He now sits with his right rear leg stretched out. Over the past week he has develped a severe limp in that leg, unable to put any weight on it. He shows no other physical signs in his leg or paw. Any ideas? Experience? Thanks.

Possibly it could be hip dysplasia... Sounds like some musculoskeletal issue anyway. That's just a guess though really, you need to take him to a vet to get a qualified diagnosis and if hip dysplasia is suspected, probably an xray. Do let us know how things turn out.

Arthritis?

How old is Frazier?I work At a kennel and we have a huge variety of dogs come and stay with us, alot of older dogs and alot of young ones too. I noticed some older dogs will sit with one or even both legs straight out when they are sitting, It is usually because they have arthritis in there joints, and it is uncomfortable to sit and put pressure on them. Just a suggestion.

I'm with GMacleod. The first thing I thought of when reading this is hip dysplacia. My sister had a yellow lab with it and he was always sitting in a weird way and limping. I hope everything is okay. Please let us know how he's doing..

Thanks

Frazier is almost 8, weighs about 75 lbs. He was at the vet in September, nothing unusual. We'll give him a couple of days, then go back to the vet. Thanks again.

I'm thinking ruptured or torn crucial ligament.........
If your vet suspects this - he will want to sedate the dog and look for the
"drawer sign".
The very most important thing you can do at this point is rest the dog.....no running, walking out for potty only, no jumping or those sudden turns and stops they're famous for.
I hope I'm wrong........keep us posted.
