limping after sleeping

so my 9 month old boxer is limping after she sleeps . I have read alot on here about limping and acl tares , what I was wondering is does the limping stop after a few steps ? Hunny only limps for a few steps but it happens every time she has been sleeping for more than 15 minutes other wise she seems fine . does anyone have any ideas ? my vet is 1/2 hour away so if i don't have to take her out there I won't. but will if it sound like something more serious I definitely will. thanks for any help.

Not much more to offer on this one but our Leila does the same thing. We've had her about a month (rescue) and she limps a bit after sleeping or laying down and then is fine. It doesn't seem to be painful.

On her next vet visit we're going to ask about supplements for joints and muscles.

so I took her to the vet today and they said she hurt her knee possibly pulled her acl now no walks for a week , then only for 15 min for a week and up from there if she is doing good. can imagine how my week is going to go . but good that it was nothing more serious .

This makes me want to take her to the vet as well........ Probably couldn't hurt.

I don't have much more to offer either, but my first thought was ACL injury. At least it's not more serious! My roommate's lab mix recently injured her ACL as well, and was on restricted movement for over a month. It took a while to heal but thank goodness it didn't end up needing surgery.

Glad to hear that your girl's situation is not too bad. Perhaps some glucosamine and chondroitin supplements would also help her.

I know that there is some in her food but I think I will get some extra for her. I have to say its not easy trying to restrict a boxers exercise . I think the poor girl is going to stir crazy. But it is for her own good . thanks for the supplement suggestion I will try anything that will help.

I found a great website on canine ACL injury when my friend's dog went through this, it has lots of info on supplements, proper amount of exercise, recovery time, etc. It's basically about how to treat ACL damage without going through surgery.

That was a good read. It seems from the site that most ligament injuries occur in the rear legs. Mine limps on the front right after sleeping or resting.

Maybe it's in my head but it seems to be getting worse.........

Take your dog to a vet. Dogs don't limp for the sake of limping, they limp because of pain (same as the rest of us). Quit trying to figure out whether its your imagination if its getting worse or not, and instead get the dog examined by someone able to diagnose what the problem is and do something about it.
