Lily's new stifle brace.

Lily was so cute tonight. I let the dogs into the back yard together for the first time in 3 or 4 days. She had the brace on.
She must be feeling better. She was bouncing and bucking around in typical happy Boxer style. When that worked out she started running back and forth showing off and seeing how fast she could go with her new brace. She ran up to Diezel, at full charge sticks out her front leg and punched him in the shoulder.
Ok, Ok, her leg's starting to feel better. But lets not over do it. I called them back in before any one got hurt.
When we got inside I took off her brace and checked her for raw spots. She has one red spot inside her leg from wearing the brace all day. I put baby powder on it. I can adjust the brace so it won't rub there. I'll show the vet when we go in tomorrow.

She seems to be showing continued improvement. Not miraculous, but I don't expect with the length of time this has been bugging her for a quick recovery.
In fact she must be feeling better. Today when they were left home alone for a few hours she chewed off her new Brace!
I was able to fix the chewed part on my belt sander. Luckily the straps didn't get chewed.
I thought that might happen. In fact I was surprised it took so long.
I guess we'll take the brace off when we're not home and limit her movement with gates.

Besides her chewing the brace I love the good news. Please continue to update because I think this could help many owners in the future.

The swelling around her bad knee has subsided & although Lily does better with the brace, she still favors that leg.
For some reason the two vets we've seen aren't sure it's the cruciate. But both want to do the TPLO. In looking at surgery options for her, I checked around and all the vets here recommend the TPLO. The plan now is to schedule one last exam & x-rays then the surgery as she's only 4yrs and too young to be stuck home all the time.

It seems strange that they are recommending the TPLO when they are not sure that it's a cruciate problem. Poor Lily. I am sure that she doesn't want to be stuck at home for the rest of her life. sadicon

The vets must think the probability is high that it's the cruciate. I can't imagine them wanting do do surgery if it's not needed.
I have been struggling with this, but I have made the decision we need to try something else besides the brace. Poor Lily is right. She has to stay home when we go out to play.
(I have been taking her on short walks with her on leash.)
If she goes out without a leash she will run. Then she pays for it with a sore leg for a day or two.
