Boxer Pal
Hey everyone,
So what im hoping for is anyone with any information or experiance with torn ligments? Toby, my youngest boxer was let off the lead yesterday morning and thought it would be a fun game to run into the next field full of cows. From what my partner told me, he just legged it and wouldnt come back...running up to a huge herd of cows and going at the ankles etc. Now most of the cows were running off trying to get away from Toby but my partner said a couple of them had a dig back at Toby...so my partner not knowing what else to do, set off walking back to our house with our other boxer Mollie who - when told to stay, did so. so half way down the lane Toby reappeared and was limping. as soon as i was informed of what had happened with the cows i got myself and Toby down the nearest Vets which is luckily only 2minutes from where we live.
he didnt appear to be in much pain and the vet said that Toby would need an xray cause he couldnt really decipher what damaged had been done. I noted that there was a slight clicking coming from the lower joint on Tobys leg and also some decent amount of swelling around his ankle if you like. so weve had the xray...went to pick him up today and was told that his ligament has snapped and a tiny fragment of bone has come away, so theyve put a splint on him but said that ideally he will need specialist treatment and a wire putting in. thats all that they said about it.
ive done abit of digging on the internet but getting really mixed impressions about surgical and non surgical treatment. some say that the opertation brings some risks of its own and sometimes its best to leave the body to recover naturally with scar tissue. so i suppose what im saying is that i have no clue as to what i should do at the present moment. Wondering if anyone could shed some light on this for me, perhaps someone has had a similar experiance with their boxer or knows someone who has dealt with this kind of injury and how they went about things on the road to recovery.
Thanks for your time
xx
