My 7 month old male still squats when he pees. He's my first male dog (I've had two females) so I'm wondering how long until he start lifting his leg?

If you do a search about this topic you will see that this is completely normal. Many males, especially neutered ones, do not lift their leg till they are 3yr or older...or not at all. Ruben will be 3 in October and still does this half squat thing when he pees. I'm thankful he hasn't learned to lift yet because it saves my car tires and plants!

Rowdy didn't lift his leg until he was almost 1.5. So don't worry! Not that its anything to rush for...;)

Yeah, I remember that it took a while for Harley to hike his leg and when he finally did, I was so excited...like he was taking his first steps or something  It is like a milestone for a little boy I guess :)

Caine is 6.5 months old and he still squats when he pees. Only once have i ever seen him lift and that is when he did it in the house on the wall... silly Boy nonoicon.

but usually this is a learned behavour so your dog might never learn to lift his leg.
But it shouldn't make him any less of a male that he is. I still laugh everytime that Caine squats... he can be soo girly sometimes..

Balboa will soon be 3yo and he still squats. It may have to do with him growing up with 2 female dogs. Monkey see, Monkey do. ;) I consider it a blessing.

Cody is 18 months old and still squats. He has lifted his leg maybe 3 times, got huge amounts of praise from DH (male bonding and all) but it never stuck and he still squats. Oh well I don't see it as a bad thing.

Angus lifts his leg to pee, but I am training him not to. I don't like it at all... He is getting really good about not doing it already! The first couple of days we had him, we had to really watch because he almost peed on Mackensie a few times! She would just be peeing, and he would walk up and lift his leg on her! Now when he lifts his leg I say uh-uh and touch his leg and he puts it down and squats.

Riley is almost 3 and only lifts his leg when he feels he "needs" to :D like at the dog park of if there is a tree there. He is just as happy going in the grass....VERY handy when on the road! I hope he never reallly starts "marking"
