I have a 10 mnth old boxer male who has discovered about two months ago he could lift his leg. I currently do not have him nuetered but will so in the future. I am not planning on breeding him or anything, just taking my sweet time to get him neutered. My problem is this. Lately whenever we go to someone elses house he lifts his leg on their house plants. Some times he will pee but not always. Of course he never lifts his leg on my house plants, but I think that is because he is in his own territory. I was wondering if I got him fixed would he stop lifting his leg on other peoples houseplants. It is so embarrasing and I watch him like a hawk know to ensure it does not happen anymore.

Neuter, Neuter, Neuter :D We've had rescues who stopped this behavior once they were neutered. You do also need to catch him in the act and let him know this is not desirable behavior!

My male pees on everything outside but never indoors. My female has always been with males and she does not squat to pee but lifts her leg just like my male....She marks everything he marks, most people don't believe it till they see it. I just don't think the neutering stops the leg lifting.

Neutering will infact not stop the leg lifting. This is normal for all neutered and unneutered males. It does however help to curb the inappropriate "marking" behavior that is done indoors ;)

It all comes with having a boy!!!! I have this same problem with Bingo. I just have always made sure when I go to my dad's house who has a boxer, or any one's house with him inside, the first few minutes you are there, keep him on a leash or close to you if he listens well, and take him out like every 10 minutes so he gets the idea that you do that outside no matter where you are. This has helped me and then after that, still take them out frequently (and if they are really marking they will lift their leg on something outside even if they don't have to pee!!). Then keep a pretty close eye on them after that. Just watch them close and take them out a lot whenever you are out of your territory, plus a good walk before you go in to your friends house also helps so "empty them" out! I always do that before I go in. People don't understand why I'm "nagging" on him and keeping him close (like this past Christmas, Bingo wanted to check out my Grandparents whole house) but I kept him in the one room with me. Everyone was saying "oh he's fine, leave him alone". But I don't think they'd feel that warm when he peed on their nice end table!!!!! Just watch him and he'll be fine and get the message. THey want to please us most of all and praise like crazy when he pees OUTSIDE! Sometimes having a male is like having a puppy all the time !!!!! ;)

Titus is 5 years old, has been neutered since a young age, but still lifts his leg on the couch, the dining room table, coffee table, you name it. It usually happens when none of us are around. I don't know if it's because his previous owners didn't house train him properly or not. Unfortunately, Lady, who was housebroken, has been following Titus bad example and pooping in the house! We live in an apartment and generally, they go outside to the patio to do their business. It's unpleasant coming home from work to find poop and pee in the house. They have access to the patio all day long through the doggie door.
