Harley still squats, or does the stretch, & he's almost 10 months old!!! I'm beginning to wonder if he'll ever hike his leg to pee. Then again the only thing in the backyard to hike it on would be Zoe!!!

Okko lifts his leg so high he almost flips over!
It is quite funny to watch him as he takes his "marking" very seriously. nonoicon

Rose is the ultimate "butch" bitch.
She lifts her leg almost as high as Okko and can atually send it up a car wheel!!!
Yep, Rose is a VERY dominant girl.;)

my tyler (who turned 8 months on the 14th!) has always squatted, much to the dismay of his daddy - guess it's a male thing cuz I can just imagine how happy he would be if Tyler lifted! Out of curiosity, anyone know if neutering or when your pup is neutered has anything to do with it?

and a little off subject, but just wanted to say that Tyler is so impatient when he's playing with other doggies and they're doing their business! he stays right next to em and tries to play before they're even finished! we're working on the etiquette thing

2 days ago my little man had his first leg lift pee!!!
I was so proud...our little female cocker spaniel always humps him and he squatted so I was a little worried about him.
Finally becoming a man...could I be any more proud???

PS
our Female cocker is spayed...anyone know why she might be doing this...it is getting difficult for her now because he is too tall. She only tries to do it when I am playfighting with Oscar and he is too distracted to fight her off.

There is hope (for those of you with the younger boys)!

Duke is 11 months(almost 1 yr.) but he didn't lift until about 9 months. My fiance made fun of him, my college roommates, sorority sisters, the list goes on! Do you know how many times I heard, "Your dog is a girl isn't he!," "Is he stupid of what?," etc.

Anyway, when he finally lifted, it was a true Kodak moment. I had taken him for a walk when he did his thing, only this time leg in air! I don't think I even let him finish before I was on the ground hugging him, telling him what a good boy he was! After that, he started lifting his leg on everything since I made him think it was the coolest thing ever!

So anyway, Duke is a leg lifter! and I'm very proud of him (incase you couldn't figure that one out)!

Thanks! This post is fun!

Jordi is almost 11 months and he still squats ......... hes a pretty good aim but sometimes his front paws get in the way. Once while he was peeing he tried to sniff his pee (or something dont know exactly what he was trying to do) and he peed on his own face :p Now top that for a dufus!!!

Out of curiosity, anyone know if neutering or when your pup is neutered has anything to do with it?

The vet told me that if you're dog is neutered before he starts to cock his leg, then he'll remain a squatter.

My two boxers are females. :)

I have a male/castrated Dalmatian.
He is 16 months old and about two months ago, he started lifting his leg to go potty. At first we thought it was so cute ;)
We were calling him a real "Big Boy" now.

Then about six weeks ago, he learned a new trait.
My husband was in the kitchen getting something to drink, when "Skylar" walked by, raised his leg, and went potty on my husband..

Since then....no one can turn their back on Skylar. If he catches anyone in the household off guard....Well, you get the picture!!

Rowdy is a lifter. Since he lifts his left leg 90% of the time and has a mean left hook, you might say that Rowdy is left footed.

Omar tends to favor his left leg as well. Since he also shakes with and touches you with his left paw when he wants something, and we live in the south, we call him our "south paw".

Anyway, I have one of each, so I didn't vote.

Magnum has always squatted. I've heard two things about that -

1. he was neutered when he was seven months old - before he ever learned to hike
2. he was never around a male that did hike - and even though Omar does, Magnum has never picked it up

Last year Omar hiked on our FAKE Christmas tree. I was so nervous when we first got him that summer that he would try to mark things in our house, and he never did - until that Christmas. He's been good this year - so far.

Buck, our male mix, lifts his leg to go. Our female dog,Buttons, marks her territory like a male. She is a Poodle/Shih-Tzu mix. She is a very dominant dog. She is the queen of all our dogs! kingicon Always wanting to get in a scrapple with our female pointer mix, so we have to keep them seperated most of the time!
