Licking like crazy!!!

So the rescue boxer (Harley) is getting better with potty training (only one accident today) and has reduced the humping (thanks to my dogs telling him they do not like that). However, now he's licking my male boxer like crazy! He licks his back, face, legs, and especially his genitals. He sometimes does this to my female but she is less tolerant to the licking and will growl at him. My other male (Rugby) is a licker as well but not like this new guy!!!! Rugby will lick people, walls, everything but doesn't sit and lick Harley or Venus that much. Poor Harley follows Rugby's every move and will sniff/lick him non-stop. Sometimes Rugby gets annoyed and will growl/bark at him and Harley will back off, but it's not long until he's back at it. Is this just a phase because he is new and looking for acceptance from the other two? Does anyone know what this means?

Not quite sure what it means, but I will say that I know a few intact males who have the same issue. Constantly following others and licking them "down there." I wonder if being intact has anything do to with it?

Possibly!!! I sure hope that too reduces when we get him neutered. haha. Thanks Caney Creek! It's good to hear that's it not just Harley!

Oh boy, I have a licky boxer too but he is neutered...I believe it's just a behavioral thing. It may need to be corrected otherwise it will continue.

I express to Otis that he needs to stop after a certain point and he does... but it does get noisy and a bit obnoxious... so at that point I tell him he needs to stop.

Our Bosley is a licker and has been since we brought him home 6 yrs ago. He licks people, other animals, furniture, walls, appliances, basically anything he can reach! We use Leave It to stop him with some success. If he's really intent we use a raw bone or a frozen kong to distract him. Bosley is deaf so maybe you'll have more luck redirecting your dog verbally. We have the added step of getting him to look at us first and he's learned to avoid eye contact if he knows we're signing something he doesn't want to do!
