O.k. i have a question.....my boxer boy (now 3yrs. old), who sleeps with my husband and I, will jump on the bed and begin licking my husband's pillow until it is soaked.....sometimes, he'll lick my husband over-and-over......why does he do this? He is adorable and he gets lots of love from both of us....but sometimes he goes into these licking fits and I don't get why?? so, just to aid my curiosity, does anyone else have this issue and know why??

I have heard that when they lick the air it is a sign of submissive behavior. but I really do not know why he licks the pillow.maybe your dh's pillow taste good. but IMO I would try to stop that and redirect the behavior.

what crossed my mind was maybe she smells something on the pillow that reminds her of your husband- cologne, deo, or just his smell and is giving it the same boxer kisses it gives to him. we always joked that if chloe had ever had puppies(she is spayed) she would have drowned them with all the licking she does. my rottie sometimes comes in with a wet head and a look on her face that says save me from the licking machine. chloe is just a natural licker.

Licking

Ours are lickers, too! Shiva loves licking our pillows - once when I was in the shower he sucked a hole in the pillow case!

They really like to lick us, too. Mick hates this. I can see that it can be annoying, but it doesn't bother me as much because I know they're just being affectionate.

it could be that he smells and tastes something that is appealing to him from your husband and/or the pillow. it could also be that he is trying to get your husband out of bed. ;)
either way, if this is behavior is something that you don't want then i would suggest redirecting his energy in some other direction, possibly a chew toy or ball, or kong filled with peanut butter.

When we come home Lewis will try to lick us and will continuously lick the air for almost 5 minutes. He also feels that he needs to lick visitors constantly, it must be a common trait. My wife thinks we should have named him Licky-mick-LickerTON.

My Albert is a licker. My son will let him lick his face over and over but not me - I think it's gross (sorry). It's funny - Daisy tries it but she pulls away because she's just not as affectionate that way. Back on track, it's not just people that he licks. The car upolstry, comforters, the couch, windows  We just laugh at it.

I've got a licker too!

Greta licks the air at random times during the day! If she's done something that she knows she will get in trouble for she will lick the air. I guess it could be partly a submissive behavior. But then again, she loves to lick my face!!!
